Milky Looking Oil

Hey guys,

I recently bought a used 1.6 engine from Automotive Plus, I took out the oil filter and immediately saw this.

I know that if its milky, oil and water are joining together which also mean the engine may have some damaged/completely screwed, but I don't want to jump to conclusion here.

What could the problem be? & what could I do to resolve it?

My first point of call would be Automotive Plus, as they sold you the engine. They're a helpful outfit, and at the very least should be able to advise you.

Hi.
The sump has been of the engine at some stage looking at the sealer used. Get back to the seller and request a replacement as a lot of Japanese engines have in the past been under water. Strange for them to sell an engine in that condition.

If it's an import engine they have to be washed before getting to Aust. I could be water left over from that, but only running it with fresh oil will prove that. Water should not be in the oil filter if it was washed, unless they spun it to check comp.

The worse case is that it's a blown head gasket.

Is this the delivered engine before you ran it?

Hey guys, I've contacted automotive plus and they said

"in my suspicion it had a remote oil filter block on there, water has entered through the open hole during the transport/cleaning/quarantine process. I would give the engine a quick flush with cheap oil once running and then put in a good quality engine oil. I recommend this with any second hand engine as a precaution to get rid of any old contaminants that may be present."

I haven't run it yet as I only received it a few days ago, I will check the sump as soon as I get home.

Considering the OP lives in Sydney, could have been damaged in transit.

that's a disaster. Engine is not fit for purpose in that state. Water in the oil is pretty obvious and damage alarming. Next step claim it on the seller - refund- exchange etc. A seller cannot just walk away from a warranty i.e. wreckers in Melb almost without exception give a limited warranty even on used parts. I think forumites will be interested to see how this evolves.

How about you don't jump to conclude that the seller has washed their hands of the situation? Give them a chance to do right or wrong or at the very least be informed of the problem before you assume they'll just "just walk away from a warranty"!

I'm sure the OP will be in touch with Auto Plus to resolve the issue, and if there's a problem he'll likely post here to let us know, and then you can let your indignation run wild.
