I like the steelies as well lol, they are going to stay my daily wheels. I just put some long lasting daily tyres on them (yoko nano energy 3). Opinions on the steelies are divided though, some love them some hate them.

Im in need of some ideas and knowledge

Now that I have some track wheels and tyres I am thinking of ways to get them to the track without driving on them. From Toowoomba to QR isnt too bad, and is only a 200km round trip. But there's a go cart track in Tamworth that I would love to hit up during my holidays - and is a 1000km round trip.

I dont want to unnecessarily go through the semi slicks on the highway. And I also dont want to run the risk of being booked for questionable tyres.

Some options to taking 4 wheels to the track in the MX5 are:

- To buy a small trailer. But to my knowledge MX5s cant legally tow trailers as they have a 0kg towing capacity. I think this can also void warranty in the even of an accident.

- Maybe get some roof racks for the hard top to take 2 on the roof, 1 in boot and 1 on the passenger seat. Not sure if this will damage the hardtop though :/

- Maybe a boot rack? - but once again not sure what weight would be safe.

- Take out the passenger seat to fit some in the front, 1 in the boot etc. This would be fine for QR, but if i go to Tamworth or back home to Armidale then ill probably want the seat in for passengers .

- Strap all 4 to the roll bar like this. Not sure if this would be legal, does any one know? Pretty sure it could be made safe with good ratchet straps pulling down onto the roll bar.

good find with those wheels.
With all the effort of a trailer, hardtop stress or scary rollbar mounts, you probably are better off just wearing the semi slicks on the street to the race track and replacing them more often. Street wear shouldnt be too bad unless your running lots of camber.
Or as you have said put them in the passenger seat area.

Yeah you're probably right. I think for long trips the passenger seat will have to come out. I just wish there was an easier way.

My solution to carrying tyres may not be as simple, but does allow a minimum of 12 tyres to be carried (8 trailer & 4 on the MX5)...

Your solution is definitely the more professional way to do it! I just need a car that can tow and a trailer :/

That garage star rack looks good but after a little research it looks like it bolts onto the trunk seem :/ and costs US$125 + postage. might be a bit better than strapping them to the roll bar but not much better...

So I found some rust

Luckily I got to it early. Have sanded and brushed back the rust, and am using rust converter, primer/sealer and killrust paint.

I cleaned and made an effort to rust proof the front and rear quarter panels a while ago and they still look fine... Fingers crossed this is the only incident.

Help/ advice needed

After reinstalling the bonnet latch mechanism the bonnet wont lock. It latches onto the top hook (as if the bonnet had been popped) but it wont lock down onto the final latch. The bonnet release pull (under the steering wheel) is also loose.

The cable seems to be ok as I can pull and push it, and I have tried reassembling it several times.

I have been searching the web for a while and I have no idea what the problem could be

Is there any one with an ideas?

Had some fun at QR on the weekend with some happy laps at the 'torque time breaky and laps'. The MX5 handled itself very well and exceeded expectations. Very keen to have another go in the dry

So unfortunately my water pump started leaking coolant the other day

Luckily a couple of mates who are mechanics had some spare time and were keen to help me out.

Because of its location we/they did a whole major service including the timing belt, idlers, drive belts, seals etc

It was 30,000km off needing the major service but its good peace of mind none the less

Even more importantly, something shiny arrived at my door step

where did you get the service parts- mania or mazda etc?

Nice extractors - dont throw away the standard old na8 one as I just bought a na8 engine and need a front pipe to get it into the na6 ;)

I lusted over that car so bad when it went up for sale.
BRG/Tan was my fall back plan if I couldn't find a blue one for the right $$$
I know the whole argument over steelies but those just filled the guards perfectly and make your car look like a real daemon.
