Hard to believe there are really dealers who lose people's deposits or who don't tell the truth about build allocations. What would they gain, really, apart from a bad reputation and a new way to lose customers and staff? Or would it be a way of taking more orders than they could truly supply, hoping some customers would put up with new "delays" every couple of weeks?

Here's what I do:

If your chosen car isn't in stock (unlikely with an ND) or already allocated a definite build date, I'll tell you which year and month your car is due to be built. I'll suggest you assume it'll be built at the end of that month.

If I don't yet know which month it's going to be built, I'll tell you which month I can place the order for your car, and which month that means the car will be built (usually the month after I can place the order, but could be later, depending on exact spec). Again, assume it'll be built at the end of that month (note that it's sometimes possible to grab an earlier build slot for a car with a different colour or spec and change it to suit you).

Sadly, your car won't be individually flown out for you from Japan to your nearest city the day it's built. It'll have to wait for the next full ship. This can take a further month. Sorry 'bout that.

Once you understand and agree all that, and the extent to which we're all in the hands of Mazda Japan, then I'll take your deposit and give you a receipt to go with your contract, which will state the longest delivery date expected for your car. I won't lose your deposit. I will only take orders based on the truth, the whole truth, and nothing but the (known) truth about when you'll get your car.

If you like the sound of that, see my sig below. Note that I will never dishonour the sanctity of any contract you already have with another dealer, so please don't ask me to improve the delivery date of an existing order placed elsewhere.

Also, to build on Dave Moore's post, once your vehicle lands in Australia it then has to get through Customs and pre-build (where they make sure it arrived in one piece and didn't acquire any dings enroute). This can add a couple of weeks to your wait.

For example, we've got one remaining build slot for a 2.0L granted for November order for December build. The specs can still be varied. I'd expect to see it end December/early-mid January.

Two 1.5s due third week November.

Once they're gone they're gone. Small part payment secures.

Sadly though, I can no longer consider VW/Audi/Skoda product as trade-ins, whether petrol or diesel as their values are just in free fall. Some wholesalers won't even make an offer for them.

I'm guessing even the petrol models have been tarred with the same brush.

VWs worth nothing - not even tradeable- unbelievable. If thats the case sounds like a great time to buy a petrol VW at a bargain price or a dirty diesel if you want to take a punt? I still don't see Mazda discounting the new ND at this stage i.e. honeymoon and still demand including the 2 litre which is not here yet.

Hi davekmoore, is that fair dinkum, that's amazing re: VW/Audi/Skoda, the family will be glad they moved out of their Golf VI when they did. Maybe time to pick up a bargain, wait 4 weeks until all new sellers realise they can't get anything for their cars as a trade and then try to do a deal on a nice GTI or Skoda vRS wagon to carry around the juniors.

It will be interesting to see how the insurance companies value the VW / Audi / Skoda when it comes time to renew comprehensive insurance policies..................and I bet they're watching every claim on current policies.

RE: Volkswagen trade in.

Man did I dodge the bullet. Traded my VW GTI a month before the announcement came out with the scandal.

Some leasing companies will not quote on the brands as they have no way of knowing future values.

I have an arrival date for my 2.0 GT. Build in November, lands in Brisbane on 8 December. Hopefully I'll get it before Christmas. Wonder if many 2.0 litres will surface before then in Australia. BTW, I have yet to see an ND on the road (apart from ones that I know). Where are they all, or are their numbers just small ?
Thanks all for your support and advice. I did get my deposit refunded from the first dealer. Now some more waiting......

I pick my 1.5 soul red GT up on Monday, I ordered on 29 Aug. The 2nd MX5 they had available for late Oct delivery was already allocated (couldn't see what spec that one was). If dealers are only getting one or two per month it's not surprising you haven't seen one considering it only came out in August!

I've so far only seen 1 on the road in Melbourne, a soul red on the Calder heading Bendigo way in early Sept.
