NA6 Clutch Pedal Bump Stop

Postby aussiecossie » Thu Oct 08, 2015 8:42 pm

Hi all, I just replaced my clutch master cylinder on my 1992 NA6 about 1 week ago and after getting home today I noticed some broken pink plastic bits on the floor under the pedals here:-

and

I had noticed on the way home that the clutch pedal seemed to be higher than normal at rest and was sort of clicking up when I took my foot off it so I assume these bits are from a broken bump stop. Does anyone know if this is correct or do you have any other ideas?

Thanks,

Andrew

More a switch actuator than a bump stop. There is a bump stop on the lower part of the clutch pedal for when you depress it, but the broken item is from toward the top of the clutch pedal & on the opposite side to the lower bump stop. It activates the clutch switch, & with it missing the clutch pedal would sit a little higher, & there may also be an effect on the operation of the clutch switch itself, which might subsequently effect engine idle speed at times.

Thanks, that makes sense. The clutch pedal definitely sits higher and I have noticed an intermittent idle problem developing over the last few months in that the idle would suddenly start hunting down & up, almost but not quite stalling. It's likely from what you say that the switch was on the way out and it just collapsed completely on Friday.

Cheers,

Andrew

There's a chance the switch might be intact & functioning as its separate from the pedal, but the broken piece (the actuator) is mounted on the pedal & contacts the switch when the pedal is released. Problem might be that the actuator can only be purchased new with the switch, in which case a trip to the wreckers or someone parting out their NA might be in order. Of course, noting that another used one may also have become brittle.
