Well, I've ordered the 2L GT (thanks davekmoore). I'm not fussed how many they sell. I'm giving up the BMW 123D diesel vert, with 150kW and a monstrous 300Nm of torque for the "chuckability" of another MX-5. I'm not your typical A86 buyer though, never could figure out how to open the roof. There's no way I'd ever buy a tintop except as a second car to lug junk in. Happy with an I30 for that. Can't see the point in a sporty car without a soft top.

In my own specific personal circumstances, a small back seat would allow me to take two children on short local trips. If that wasn't a consideration then I'd be more interested in the ND.

I was puzzled initially why Mazda Oz limited the initial supplies to 1500 but then I found this article on motoring.

The best year they had was when the NC hardtop was released (about 1400). I am guessing they didn't want to risk having MX5s sitting in the lots and took a conservative approach.

Perhaps a CX3, Sir, or an SP25?

So, when I said a couple of months ago that supplies would be tight, I wasn't kidding. Including initial allocation it'll still be an average of about one car per dealer per month.
The sooner you place your order the sooner you'll get your car.

I'm in a similar position - I currently have a 2010 135i coupe and am considering going back to an MX-5 (I had one of the NAs back in the 1990s). The 135i's engine is a masterpiece but you can never use 225kW/400Nm on the road and the rest of the car is really just too heavy - 1500kg for a small 2-door coupe is ridiculous! This excess weight really shows up in how the car drives.

Would be very interested in your views after swapping the 1-series for the MX-5.

Guys, just a heads up on a potential issue with the new ND.

I've had an annoying clunking sound going on, in my car since we took delivery. It's been in for it's 1000 service and I forgot to tell the guys then, but it has gotten worse since then.
We just got back from a big weekend away with the Brisbane Chapter and we travelled some pretty rough roads.

Boy, was the missus unimpressed. She kept saying "there's something wrong with it. it shouldn't be making that noise". She is right of course, it shouldn't, so tomorrow, I'll be contacting the dealer.

From what I have just read, over on the yank forums, there are several possible causes. One is incorrect torqueing of bolts in the frame and suspension parts, another possible cause is brake calipers and lane departure circuitry has also been blamed.

Mazda are aware of the problem and are trying to address it, they have issued bulletins to repair it, here's a pic of the official bulleting, showing the possible problematic torque settings:

this may sound stupid and obvious but are the tools in the jack compartment? I wrapped mine in bubble wrap and got rid of a noise straight away

Good thought. I'd love hear if someone finds a nice padded black bag to fit these in before I do. I'll also report if I find it first.
