3 way MX5 CAM Sensor Connector Kit
I could be looking at getting at least one of these, however the freight cost is the same for about 30 of them. Anybody looking at using shielded wiring on the OEM CAS for a BP motor?
Cost is $12 US each http://www.bmotorsports.com/shop/product_info.php/products_id/2257
For 5 of the 3 way MX5 CAM and 5 x GM Delphi / Packard Metri-Pack ( Metripack ) P2S Sensor Connector Kit = $96 US and $50 US for tracked freight. Whereas 1 of the CAM pigtails will cost $12 US and $50 US for freight.

Do you have a source for 3-wire shielded wiring?
I can buy it for like $10 per 2 meter length which is mil-spec teflon lined but was hoping for a longer spool.

Re: 3 way MX5 CAM Sensor Connector Kit
Have not sourced the shielded wiring, was trying to find a source for the plugs before even looking for the wire.
This is a possible source however not Milspec http://www.directcables.com.au/store/product_info.php?cPath=30_38_41&products_id=50
Or security screened cable, is rated to +75°c http://au.rs-online.com/web/p/security-alarm-cable/5102555/
This http://au.rs-online.com/web/p/multicore-industrial-cable/3319010/ UL flame test - UL1685 UL Loading and AWG 18
WIRE, 3 CORE SHIELDED BLACK - per metre and WIRE, SHIELDED TEFZEL 3 CORE per metre http://www.capa.com.au/prices_motec_haltech.htm

Re: 3 way MX5 CAM Sensor Connector Kit
I'll have a think about it and get back to your regarding plugs. I wouldn't mind getting an early NA8 CAS (4 pin) plug, and some sensor / injector plugs so that I can remake a new harness out of the car without messing up my existing wiring. If your happy to order some different connectors for me, the shipping can still be split though.
In terms of all the sensor wiring, I think I'll go 24awg shielded for all. I notice my FPS and OPS are fluctuating since I've run them past some other wires (most likely the CAS wiring)

I'm happy to split the shipping cost, where it is sent first will depend on priority and my needs are not that urgent. Just make a shopping list

Re: 3 way MX5 CAM Sensor Connector Kit
Shielded wiring? Is this because of real experienced problems, or more of a 'precautionary, nice to have' thing?
You would need to do all the ignition wiring I presume, not just the CAS?

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)

Re: 3 way MX5 CAM Sensor Connector Kit
You just need to shield the wire(s) with the signal that you want to 'protect'.

Re: 3 way MX5 CAM Sensor Connector Kit
When ignition is on my FPS and OPS are sitting stable, when the engine is cranking or running I'm seeing fluctuations in the sensors. So I assume it's the ignition and / or CAS interfering with the signal line.
To fix it, I figured I'll run shielded wire to all sensors, CAS and ignition so that there can't be any interference from anything. A little brute force but given I plan to make a single loom for the entire engine anyway I may as well run better cables. I'd much prefer a single multi-core cable to each sensor rather than multiple wires as it's much easier to troubleshoot... and given I can get 2 - 4 core 24AWG shielded wire for around $3-4 a meter, why not just run shielded across all connections to all sensors?
Maybe it's tidier to share the 5v line and shield just the signal and sensor ground? I'm not very experienced in automotive wiring!

Re: 3 way MX5 CAM Sensor Connector Kit
These are for the camshaft sensor on later model engines right? With separate crank and camshaft sensors? Not the NA8 CAS?
Cheers,

Re: 3 way MX5 CAM Sensor Connector Kit
Yes that clip is, but the site also has the earlier 4-pin NA8 one that I'll order. I'll also order 4 x injector plugs and coolant ones too if Magpie doesn't mind. Just need to make a full list for my engine.

Complete your list and post it on here or PM it to me. I'll do a master list to keep an eye on the freight cost.
