That's what happens when a rating 'system' equally weights Handling (10/10) with Space (5/10) and Connectivity (7/10).
That said Andrew McLean's review doesn't seem to convey quite the same enthusiasm that comes through in his trackday comparison with the Toyota 86 video.

The review had a number of errors in it including comments about the earlier cars and conclusions that are arguably things you would not say to people face to face like saying that "its previous models appeal more to empty nesters rather than genuine enthusiasts"
The words in the report don't match the rating though ultimately a reader might look closer to see why the rating was lacking. The report referenced TOYOTA 86 at 9 and VW at 8 but still manages the conclusion that" The MX-5 has never been better than it is today".
