Good luck with the repairs. At least you will have a new clutch to play with.

Wasn't this a brand new engine? Any ideas about what's caused the rings to fail so quickly? Hopefully the bill's not too big!

Engine was a few years old when I bought it. Here is the sale ad.

This motor has not travelled more than 2000km so all the internals are as new.
The Motor – this engine owes me a small fortune it has the following:
• Wiseco decompressed pistons
• H-Beam Carrillo rods
• All new associated internals bearings etc
• Supertech double valve springs and titanium retainers
• Genuine SP Turbo manifold
• Genuine SP Dump Pipe
• As new Garrett GT2560R turbo
• ATC lighten flywheel
• All the turbo pipework including a Turbosmart BOV (no intercooler)
• Ported head and inlet manifold
• High flow Injectors
• Full exhaust system to match the dump pipe and fit an NB (no Cat)

I will include the computer the engine management which was controlled by a New Haltech E8 with a linked loom for an NB, MAP sensor and electric boost controller. On the conservative tune at 14psi the car produced over 240HP at the rear wheels. This motor is built to produce much more power however the tune was designed to provide sustainably usable power for endurance races.

Selling the lot for $3000.00 firm

The plan is to reuse the rods and replace pistons/rings/bearings ect ect.

Will you have to replace the pistons as well given they are so new? :|

Could you get away with just replacing the rings?

Won't be anything wrong with the Pistons.

Rings or glazed bores or both. Only one way to find out. That's what seems to be the diagnosis.

Hopefully something simple and a solution that will last, unless you are wanting to bore her out, but what options do you have with current pistons and new rings?

Fair bit of piston slap when cold so unlikely pistons will be reused. Even if we just re-hone bores I would to run less piston/bore clearance.
Dave likes Supatechs, I like Arias. We can make that decision after its open. Scooby has Arias at 0.003" clearance.

Nice set of Wiseco lo comp pistons for sale shortly. Danny has first dibbs.

The motor was thoroughly cleaned with Subaru cleaner then ran for about 5 mins only. We scoped inside and it looked pretty oily.
So I asked David to rip it out and pull the motor apart.

These guys specialise in car stuff that get hot and worth the cost to do it properly. $160.00 and you will need to pay cash.

JE 84.5mm Pistons are in from Fab9tuning. Thanks Dann. Block is finished. Shouldn't be long now.

Custom catch can coming from a solid aluminium billet. Its going to be pretty.

Looks good mate, but you know that red lets the heat out of the motor better, studies show drops engine temps by umm lots.
