17/9/15

Picked up some new shoes for the girl today, as in..

Image

Older wheels were very weathered, will probably clean them up and sell or keep for spares.
Tyres are going from a 14x5.5 to 14x8,
Quite a jump, should look good once they're all fitted!

Today I got the rear camber arms and springs in, I test fitted the new wheels and they looked great! The 'crew' ran out of time to do the fronts so it's looking a little odd at the moment, running the stock wheels on it now, should have it done early next week, gonna look awesome! :)

Quite a drop!

20/9/15

It's finally done!

After a lot of hard work and even more de-seizing bolts, the front springs and arms have been fitted and the cars at a point where I'm really happy with the way it looks!

Image

It's sitting a lot nicer now!
This has all been a big learning curve for me as I've never worked on a car much before, let alone my own! My hands are beginning to get used to their new colour..

Now I'm feeling determined, let's get this engine sorted... :)

Wow Jesse - you've certainly got stuck into it. Tell us more about the camber arms and why you went that way - just curious!

Cheers,

Yes haha! And I had to put the camber arms so that the wheels wouldn't poke out because of their large offset.
Unfortunately the front aftermarket camber arm ball joints were seized and the thread for it to bolt on was poorly maintained by the previous owner and was in a pretty bad way, using them wouldn't be possible without a tap and die set, which I don't have. :(

Image

Also stuck, was the original ball joint, I had to hit the steering knuckle for several minutes over and over until it finally broke free whatever was keeping it stuck in there..
You can see the amount of road grime that fell off while trying to break free the ball joint screw out of the steering knuckle

Good thinking Jesse! What brand are the camber arms?

I actually have no clue.. It doesn't say on them, the previous owner sprayed them black so (I believe) they wouldn't attract unwanted attention.. So I think any sort of branding has been hidden

Jesse's NA6 from the south

I took her for a spin this morning, I was finally able to let my temptations of having some fun out today as I have my 8" tyres all round, front steering is super heavy when parking etc. but isn't really noticeable at higher speeds, I've found that downhill driving is a lot more enjoyable because I don't have to push the car too hard power-wise, and can let the hill do the work. I had some great fun, this thing really loves corners!

Image

Great having this hill literally 2 minutes from my house, getting to know it really well!

My Shifter boot arrived today! Old one had seen better days and also had several tears.

I picked the new one up for around $20 dollars on the Internet.

Super easy install, took all of 15 minutes, few screws, remove the centre console, take the old boot off, clip on the new one and it was done!
Looking much cleaner, next is the handbrake boot.

Did you take a look at the upper/lower gearshift boots while the console was off? Those commonly require replacement. Usually also a good time to replace the turret oil while all apart.

Ah yes ... Old Willunga Hill ...

Black hardtop on a red NA is always a good combo. I like the look of the boot spoiler as well. Some nice roads down south but try heading out into the hills north east of the city. Its a bit of a drive for you but well worth it

Upper and lower boots? Underneath the weird multicoloured padding around the shifter, there was a rubber surround, if that's what you mean, it looked in pretty good condition, not perished at all..

And yes, my hometown!

Yeah I like the black roof aswell! I was very lucky to get a hard top with it aswell, one of the cheaper MX-5s I've seen with a hard top!

And I've been on some of the hills north soon with friends etc. never dríven them myself, would be good to try them out!
