Which aftermarket temp gauge?

Hi guys, just looking at installing an aftermarket temp gauge as I know the stock one isnt great and I do mainly track work. Just wondering what people recommend and where is the best place to install the sensor. Would I be better off with a gauge that has the sensor on the engine block as opposed to having it near the thermostat/radiator hose?

If your doing track work, then you really need something that you don't need to look at often.
I fitted this style of coolant gauge as it is mechanical switchgauge.
You set at what temp you want a warning, either shutdown to idle or alarm going off or both.

Mine are mounted off the dash as per mickey mouse ears, easy to view if needed.
As for where to fit the sensor, I fitted mine in the reroute line from the head to the rad.
Being as your in WA you will find that murphy gauges will be easy to find as every piece of mining and ag equipment will be fitted with them.

I'm looking to replace my Autometer cobalt gauges with the newer 'sport comp 2' pro control gauges.
Part no.#105-3654 is a 2-1/16" full sweep, 100°/260°F water temp gauge with stepper motor control and configurable peak temp. warning light, so you dont have to take your eyes off the road. The The 2-1/16" gauges slot right into the air vent trim rings.
Not the cheapest, but pretty well fail safe, quality construction ensures the money spent on your motor is well protected.

OK thanks guys, Ive decided to go for one that fits into my vent, so I think I need a 60mm gauge? Also one were the sensor connects to rear of the engine block for accuracy, and which has an alarm/light which you can set when it reaches a set temperature....... Will let you know what I go with.

BTW, i'd look for a gauge with "peak hold" because you might be too busy on track to notice how high the temps are spiking.

I found that when looking at more then one gauge with peak and hold from a good brand you rapidly approached the cost of a digital dash. Maybe something to keep in mind.
