There are non-slotted/non-ribbed drive belted 1.8L MX5s out there? I must have missed those.

Pretty sure all BP engines post 94 had slotted drive belts. All pre 94 BP/BPTs had V belts like NA6s. Except 92-94 BPD GTR engines had slotted drive belts.

Sorry I do not know what is meant by "non-ribbed drive" and "slotted drive belt" ?

The nomenclature I used were:
for Belt ..............Ribbed Belt and V Belt
for Pulley............Slotted Pulley and Non Slotted Pulley

For clarity, is it possible to re post using same nomenclature or provide a cross reference ?

Oh I forgot to mention to you Kieth. When I spoke to Garry Stewart many moons ago he did not rate the factory solid lifters at all. This was due to the shim on bucket rather then shim under bucket of the Mazda speed units. The factory units are apparently the same width at the bearing surface either creating higher surface forces.

I'd find you good crank and then just put some shim under bucket lifters in the head.

I pulled apart the head last night. Hydraulic lifters unfortunately... still as sailaholic said you really need the SuB lifters for revs anyway.

I'm going to pack this head away for a few months and when I pull down my engine at the end of the year I'll have a look and start porting it to match. If I use this head it will be for a high powered Rotrex build, so I'd run oversized valves and SuBs anyway with some high lift 264 or 272 degree cams.
