Clutch Slave Cylinders..... Genuine or Aftermarket?

Postby Venuci » Wed Sep 09, 2015 4:55 pm

Hi Everyone

Quick question for all you wise heads on this forum.....

Talking about the clutch slave cylinder on an NA6 - has anyone found any difference (either in the operation or longevity of the part) between the genuine Mazda article or an aftermarket alternative brand such as Protex?

Cheers

Most genuine stuff is just repackaged aftermarket stuff. I'm doubtful MAzda has made a slave cylinder for a 25yo car for the past 15 years.

p.s. Genuine or aftermarket, it is all the same.

They are all equally fragile.

As above, most of it's the same anyway.

I know Mazda used to have their brake parts made by PBR, so maybe look for a PBR one if you're really concerned.

I have Protex in both cars. Funnily enough the originals both went within a month of each over.
One car had 45K the other 180K km's.
Bought one from MX5+ the other from Bursons about $70.00 each I think.

You can get them from the states for $15.00

Master and slave cylinders often expire at about the same time on one car. I'd be inclined to do both in one job. Aftermarket is fine - aim for $70 for the master and $40 for the slave.

I set up a group buy for Daikin units many years ago and they were fine. I believe Daikin is OEM manufacturer for quite a number of components.

I still have that installed about 80,000 km still going strong. Bleed it every time I bleed breaks maybe once a year.
