low profile trolley jack - Syd south west area

Postby The Green Goblin » Sun Aug 30, 2015 3:55 pm

hey fellas,

im currently looking to purchase a low profile trolley jack that would suit the NB..that being long enough to reach the centre of front cross member (600mm from front bar) & low enough to get under the front lip (115mm from ground) - though i can use some wooden planks here if required. ive had a look around the auto shops nearby, supercheap & autoexcel but no success. have also had a look online & really liked the blue point (or snap on) one which is popular, but not sure where i can purchase this from.. i prefer to see/purchase direct from a shop so i can ensure the specs/dimensions suit (most seen online dont show this). lastly would need to have long leverage to jack up & not hit the front bar.

keen on a steel one as it will offer more stability, don't really care about its weight as long as it is about 1200-1500 carry load & within the desired dimensions. hoping one can point me in the right direction here.

ta,
Jas.

try the low profile jack from suzukisuper on ebay

I bought this one, fits under my car

If you visit them, they will let you take it for a spin to see if its low enough

It is the lowest jack on the market apparently

Costco has the arcan low profile jack for around $140. Very good quality and easy to use.

Here's a discussion about various options

Used to be $139.99 last year, but last week I checked it was $179.00.
I'm not sure the arm is long enough to get under the crossmember.

Does look okay, the overall length though is 610mm.. The end section looks quite raised.. So not sure the arm would reach easily. Have you used this on your car?

Any guys out there in the trades that can get a snap on one?

Searched but nothing came up? Also reluctant to buy off e-bay.

Have ended up making contact with a local snap on rep via their website..
Going to catch up with him next week to look at the lowest/longest, Steel type they offer.. Which has 1 tonne capacity.

Pricing looks a little steep, but id rather pay extra for the safety + longevity. Will check back in with pics/specs if i proceed.

Adios amigos.

I'd just use wooden ramps to get the height before using a normal jack. Snap on is awesome stuff (I have snap on tools for work) but way too overpriced.

I have this one as well, you can save a bit by picking up from Auburn if you're in Sydney.

http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/3-Ton-Liftin ... 53ffb351c8

It won't reach the front cross member on my SE but it has the lower lip spoiler so might on a standard NB?
I normally just jack up one side and put that wheel on a block before moving around to the front, it's actually very quick.

I settled on this one because it is;
- steel
- has a huge lifting capacity
- had one of the lowest 'base' heights I could find
- has a very long armature, so can reach a long way
- has a very high lift
- reasonably priced.

Be warned though, the damn thing weighs a tonne!

If the low profile Jack is actually made by the co holding the ISO quality spec then it should be good. Might be worth some research. I guess 12 mth warranty is of value but again worth seeing what are the terms. I have an English made 4 wheel Jack which is still going after 45 years.
