So just doing the math.
305 aw hp roughly equals 360 at the motor.
With a full tank of petrol that's 1065kgs which equals 338hp/tonne.
Check out the HP/Tonne list in this bracket.

What boost are you running Ian to get the 304hp?

Stock car is ~80kW (117hp) at the wheels (for 113kw / 151HP at the flywheel)
So this is approximately 2.6x the power of a stock car, or 293kW / 392HP (assuming it's linear )
That's 356hp/tonne, even better
Supreme Blue NB8B, 1:16.98 at Wakefield when stock, but it's not stock any more...

Re: A NB8B Turbo progress.
Little update:
Picked up the car from Dann last night, cool air and dry roads (good combination I was thinking).
Dann says "Ill take you for a run and show you what it does". Last time he said that it translated into me as a passenger looking out my window at the trees and telegraph poles coming at me, car sidewaysish wishing I was wearing a helmet and the doors having intrusion bars, so here we go again with allot more hp.
The freeway run was a game of "watch it bend the speedo needle". Ok so it gets to plenty fast, relatively quickly. I can't quote figures for obvious reasons.
My turn, easy to drive, button clutch is hardly different to the HD unit (what was the fuss about), slightly quicker take up but light and zero shudder. Good.
Takes more throttle to initiate boost than the 2554 but not that much at all. Below 10psi it feels very strong, really strong. At 1/3 throttle it will march straight to red line with a turbine roar and surge same as a plane taking off. At full throttle its like your own private jet and its just you in it. Second gear it hooks up well with just a bit of spin and shake but better than I was hoping! Clearly Dann has mastered tuning these turbos for drive ability, he did explain how he uses the ecu to make the turbo do things that translate to a great driving experience that is easy to modulate without missing out on what the motor can make, but it was too complex for me to grasp, my brain could only hear itself repeating a mantra "keep it straight and get it home".
Wife drives it when I get back, I take her to a long steady hill in the industrial area and she punches it 2nd, 3rd and into 4th, does some silly speed laughing like a girl and then says "you don't need to to go that fast on the street!" I just nodded in agreement.
Well worth every cent, just don't ask how many.

Re: A NB8B Turbo progress.
Sounds pretty awesome!
I've always wondered how hard/easy it is to drive these high powered MX-5s. Obviously the amount of throttle you use has some bearing on it, but I just keep thinking that it must rocket to the rev limit very quickly, and surely that's going to make it a bit of work on the streets?

Dann makes them so easy to drive,my missus drove my so Ken's car(very similar setup to Ian's) back from the last Kempsey hillclimb to newcastle in the rain, she said "whats the fuss?"

Re: A NB8B Turbo progress.
There is a fair bit of clever setup and electronic wizardry that goes into the cars I build.
What i do with the ecu and electronic setup, along with the hardware (wastegate/downpipe stuff) allows me to build turbo cars that make significantly more power on stock engines (or less parts/$$$, Ians has its original pistons for example) and keep them reliable, and still driveable.
Tammie Hotz NB8A is making 260rwhp on a completely original engine, with no lag, gorgeous silky smooth delivery, great fuel economy and its done a 6 hour race at eastern Creek, phillip island, wakefield and a bunch of street driving. For those doubting the hp numbers it is 7 seconds faster now than it was before at wakefield with no other changes.
Kens car mentioned above has just conrods and makes a smooth 285rwhp and absolutely collects podiums in the state hillclimb series and gets dríven to those rounds, and is dailied.

Re: A NB8B Turbo progress.
With the roof down this evening the sound of the intake and exhaust combined with acceleration is intoxicating, just a huge smile.
Even half throttle, 3rd or 4th gear 4000 to 6000 sounds and feels unbelievable, like an 600cc inline 4 sports bike with a pipe, nope its actually much better than my old CBR600F4i.
Just sharin'...

Re: A NB8B Turbo progress.
I have to say after Dann built the turbo for my car, the 2.5" exhaust is...weeny.
I've since heard Yemin's 3" exhaust (also built by Dann) and I am craving that sound!

Mines is a bit loud for my liking at traffic speeds and slight throttle position... but roof down on boost its really a special noise.
