Good discount tyres in Melbourne?

Postby manga_blue » Fri Aug 28, 2015 8:36 pm

I need to get a set of sedan tyres in Melbourne next week. 205/55R16, nothing special but good quality Continental/Hankook/Bridgestone/Yokohama etc.

In Sydney we have the Tempe/StGeorge/Taleb trilogy. These are parallel importers of tyres from the major brands. They're fresh, genuine and cheap. I can't find anything like them in Melbourne. Do you have one in Australia's best city? Otherwise do I just get Tempe to ship a set down - in which case can someone recommend a good tyre fitter in inner Melbourne?

Kmart Tyre and Auto have a price beat guarantee. Had them price match St George Tyres when I got some KU36s.

PCMX5 usually recommends Michael Burgess @ <www.associatedtyre.com.au/> <9583 6452>, 341/343-345 Warrigul Rd Cheltenham (vicinity of Heatherton Rd & tell him Peter from Geelong sent you), but it might be a bit out of the way for you. Re inner Melbourne tyre fitters, perhaps Stuckey Tyre Service, 828 Sydney Road, Brunswick.

I know Stuckeys pretty well: bespoke racing tyres for the landed gentry. :) Good guys and excellent advisors on all things race oriented. They've kept my NA8 shod for years. I used to take tyres back there after each meeting and they'd suggest set-up improvements from the wear patterns. It was a process that gave very good results. That's where I learnt about the weird scalloped wear pattern you get on R888s if you drive them hard enough.

As it turns out Jax in Hawthorn have just matched Tempe on Hankooks for me. I left a few enquiries on tyre sites and they've all called back and talked deals. Very positive results doing it that way.
