NC wheel fitment
So I'm aware that there has been a lot of discussion already about what wheel specs fit under the NC's guards. As my understanding, people say a 17x7.5 +48 or 17x8 +48 rim are a good fit, and 17x9 +45 may also fit on a lowered car. By my understanding, 17x9 +45 sticks out 6.9cm from the hub, doesn't that mean a 17x8 +35 wheel would also fit without clearance issues (sticks out 6.7cm from hub)?
Just trying to see what offset I can have on a 17x8 wheel with the car lowered to 345mm all around (~1.5" drop from stock) without guard work.

Re: NC wheel fitment
What size tyres do you plan on running?
I can't see 17x9 +45 or 17x8 +35 working without a roll.

Re: NC wheel fitment
Tyres would probably be 215/45.
According to http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Pe ... -1316.html , 17x9 +48 with 235/40 tyres fit without modifying the fender. Am I correct about a 17x9 +48 having a similar fender clearance to a 17x8 +35? So pretty much anything that doesn't stick out more than 66mm from the hub should fit without modifying the fenders if the tyres aren't too beefy.

Yeh it's pretty close to being the same, according to this calculator ( http://www.good-win-racing.com/Mazda-Pe ... -1316.html) 17x8 +37 with 215/45 tyres is the same fender clearance as that +48 option that is on the Goodwin site.
You could always try it and if the worst happens you'd need to do a roll or if you wanted to play it safe 17x8 +40 should work.
The downside of not taking higher offset wheels is that you limit your tyre choices so do the maths for the biggest tyre size you'd ever see yourself running.

Ah okay, cheers for clearing that u[ guys. Was just a bit confused because of stuff I've read saying +45 is the lowest you can go on a 17x8.

Re: NC wheel fitment
I realise that this is a little late but I’m running 8.5” x 17”, 50 offset and 225 x 45 tyres. Something over 2.2 negative camber with a 340mm height, and the rear right will just scrape on big bumps.
Compared to stock, the outside lip of the rim will move out with the following offsets:
17x8/45 – 22mm
17x8/35 – 32mm
17x8.5/50 – 23mm
18x9/45 – 33mm
If you get a tape measure and put it on the top of the rim and look vertically down, you can see where the rim will end up with the offset you’re considering.
Also I note that you mention using 215x45 tyres. I'd forget that idea as they will be stretched too far.
My 225’s on the 8.5 are at their design limit as I couldn’t get the performance 235x40 tyres I wanted a month ago.
The 235x45's that came on the rims made it look like it was fitted with truck tyres. They hit the guards and weighed too much.
If you are going to run 8” rims and a 45 offset, fit 225x45 as they should clear the guards. If not just pay the $65 per guard and have them rolled.
When considering your tyre size remember to look at the overall diameter.
215x45x17 is 626mm
225x45x17 is 634mm (628)
235x40x17 is 620mm
235x45x17 is 644mm (638)
245x40x17 is 628mm (622)
Hankook tyre diameters are smaller than the rest and are shown in brackets.
I seriously considered the 245x40 tyres when I couldn’t get the 235x40’s but sense prevailed as it would have been ‘over tyred’ and a police magnet.

I was surprised when I read that as I have had experiences with Hankooks running bigger than other brands in the same size so I went and checked.
I just looked on the Hankook website for Z221 and RS-3 sizes which are the two street/motorsport tyres they make (http://www.hankooktyre.com.au/Product/M ... Slick.aspx?) and Tirerack for the size of the V12 Evo's which are a common street tyre (http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires.jsp ... 5YR7K120XL)
Next to the sizes you gave for the diameter of the Hankooks I put the sizes that were on those websites:
215x45x17 is 626mm
225x45x17 is 634mm (628) - V12 Evo 635, RS-3 631 Z221 636
235x40x17 is 620mm
235x45x17 is 644mm (638) - V12 Evo 645, RS-3 645 Z221 644
245x40x17 is 628mm (622) - V12 Evo 627, RS-3 629 Z221 628
There is one outlier which is the RS-3 in 225/45/17 but the rest seem bang on the normal diameter.

Re: NC wheel fitment
I probably should have said Hankook Ventus S1 evo2 road tyres Dan.
I have just been through the exercise of choosing a road tyre that I could get away with at the Phillip Island 6hr relay on August 1&2, that wasn't a track (R spec) or semi track (S spec) tyre. My 8F & 8.5R rims are for the street, so stiff walled tyres weren't my the list, hence the S1 evo2 tyre.
BTW I fitted Michelin PS3 that on a wet Phillip Island track in the first practice session saw me as 5th fastest out of 72 cars on the circuit.

Re: NC wheel fitment
Thanks for the extra info, I'm actually looking at getting a set of 949 racing 6ULR 17x9 +48. A bit off topic from my initial question, but 235/40R17 seems to be an uncommon size. St george tyres have Federal RSR and RSRR for ~150ea in that size, have heard good things for street use but unsure if they're suitable a daily car. Any reason I shouldn't go with these?

Yep, you only get what you pay for, but if you must then check the manufacturing date. Forget anything over 2 years old.
You're correct saying that 235x40 is an uncommon size, which makes it really important to pick the right tyre. Given the size and that it's street use you should look at a tyre that’s light and has more flexible side walls like the Kumho KU31.
Back in your first post you said that the guards weren’t rolled. With the 9” rim you are going to need a roll even with a 235x40 tyre. That being the case why a 235 section?
I’m presuming you picked the 9” rim because it looks good? Then as you need a guard roll and you’re after appearance, go for a 245x40 on the 9” rim. The tyres cost a lot more but for appearance…..

Re: NC wheel fitment
yeah with 17x9 6UL the rear guards will have to be rolled.
Forget stgeorge tyres, they always have old stock hence why its cheap. The RSR's are a pretty crap tyre
I'm running 17x9 with 235-40's in AD08R's though. awesome tyre but there is slightly more road noise than your conventional road tyre.

Re: NC wheel fitment
@JBT yeah I like the thinner spokes of the new 17inch 6ULs
Initially I was planning to stop at 17x8, but this set of 6ULRs were too cheap to pass up. Guess I'll have to roll the rear guards...
Thanks for the tip about st george tyres regie, will keep looking for a suitable set of tyres.
