Re: NA6 and custom ECU plans
No wideband yet. Had planned on putting it on with the new ECU, but might have to do it sooner to try and diagnose the problem in stock form.
I had a good look/listen around for vac leaks and couldn't seen anything obvious. I'm going to have a look at the fuel regulator today to make sure its vacuum reference is working OK. The engine still revs fine to redline, provided you ease the throttle up rather than giving it more than about 40%, so something related to vacuum seems like a good possibility.

I don't understand how you can tune a standalone with no air fuel reference in less than a week.

Re: NA6 and custom ECU plans
Sorry, I think there's some confusion here.... Car is currently totally stock! Including the ECU! What I meant in my previous post was that there's a few other people using my ECU on cars now, not that it's on this one.
I'm just trying to get it running right before I do the ECU swap!

Which fits pretty well with the fact that it runs fine when it's cold (And presumably running richer). Just a matter of trying to figure out why

Though speaking of.... Dann, would you be interested in trying one of these units out when it's ready to go? It's still under heavy development, but it's at a point where on car testing is certainly possible if you're willing to get your hands dirty.

Re: NA6 and custom ECU plans
Sorted, turned out to be the fuel pressure regulator.
Now that everything is sorted mechanically, I can move onto actually doing the ECU. I still need to get a spare ECU to grab the connector off, but will find someone wrecking one fairly easily I'm sure.
FWIW, here's one of the other guys testing the system on a Peugeot: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rg3UfiwX9f8
That was a little while back and things have progressed a little since then (Namely with the introduction of 16x16 tables).

Well sussed... looking forward to seeing your progress!

Re: NA6 and custom ECU plans
Just a quick update.
The 4g63 (aka NA MX-5) crank/cam decoder is written now and the 48-pin interface board should go off for production next week some time. I had planned on doing a 64-pin version first, but the 48-pin is considerably cheaper to do and will work for testing on my NA, so the 64 can come later.
Wideband O2 is fitted on the car and I'm hoping to scour the wreckers for a VTPS tomorrow morning if the rain holds off.

Re: NA6 and custom ECU plans
For anyone interested, here's a few pics of a (mostly) populated board. The interface boards (Eg 48 or 64 pin for MX5s), plug into the 40 pin connector that is unpopulated in these pics

Re: NA6 and custom ECU plans
Well, bloody frustrating day, but at least it's up and running
TPS turned out to be DOA so I had to run in pure speed-density with no acceleration enrichment. Then I snapped the hose fitting off the MAP sensor and had to replace that
Still, at least it's something.
(This is a totally stock NA6 other than the hose for the MAP sensor. Wiring is straight into the standard loom)

Re: NA6 and custom ECU plans
Great to see it's worked so far!
i'm curious, would this sort of thing also translate well to a piggyback style ECU? (ie: the factory ECU does it's thing, but under certain conditions the arduino thingys adjust the signals to allow minor tune changes to say timing or fuel?)

It could be done, but the way it's designed is really as a standalone first and foremost. Even in a piggy-backed setup, it would have to totally control the fuel and ignition rather than being something that can vary these signals from the OEM ECU.

Re: NA6 and custom ECU plans
Man, slow progress. Spent the weekend battling with a bloody aftermarket immobiliser. Thing had black wires running everywhere, such a pain to try and work around (Yeah, I know that's the whole idea )
Got out for a very brief drive. This is running on pure speed-density with everything else completely stock (Including TPS and O2), but at least it's now tuneable and drivable.
Boring video, but progress is progress I guess.

rad! still up for testing one of these in my car if you're still seeking testers.
