Help with whereabouts of red 89 NA
A couple to whom all members of the Vic and Tas MX5 Club owe a huge debt would like to find out more about where their first MX5 is today.
It was registered in December 89, so was one of the very first in Australia. Supplied by Mornington Mazda, where I work, and from where I've been able to find quite a lot of info.
However, it's disappeared off the Vic Roads radar, showing as the registration being cancelled.
The last 3 of the VIN are 686. Was registered MIATA in Vic in its early days. It's red.
Please let me know if you know anything about the car and I'll pass it on.

Good luck Dave I know your the guy that can solve these kind of mysteries
Vin of around the 600 in December made means they must have sold around 600 in 3 months dam good selling for that era

Dave, might be implicit in the above quote, but if not, have they also checked the VIN with Mazda Australia by phone: 1800 034 411 or email: <CustomerServiceEnq@mazda.com.au>
If it's been serviced by Mazda since it's original sale MA will have a record, which could point closer to its current whereabouts. Also, just had a look in the NA6 Register thread, but it doesn't appear to be in that list.

While I can't help with the current location, I do remember seeing those number plates over the years....and usually around the South Melbourne area.
Good luck with the search.

Nope, but with a plate like that I half expect the original owners may not want to see it (I'm expecting horrid chrome wheels and a cheap beige leather retrim)
I guess i'm lucky in knowing the history of mine.
was sold at Brighton Mazda, used in the CBD for a while, then sold to a couple, lady used it for work.
They retired, bought a horse farm in wine country, drove it down the driveway, realised it kept scraping the scrappy driveway, shoved it in a barn.
Then I bought it.

Re: Help with whereabouts of red 89 NA
I will give you my little story. We had a certain British car with flat four engine and it was "restored" to a certain standard by us. I did the painting and we did all the trimming including the seats and headlining and the vehicle was dríven for family duties- work and billy lids etc. Was even a member of the Club. That was well over 30 years ago. Not so long ago I was reading a Club newsletter and a member had just bought the car and quoted the engine number- I remembered the number and it was our old car. I recall when I had it the original owners certificate and papers were still in the glove box and the vehicle was built in 1950.The papers and the original rego plates were gone.
A red MX5 is going to be near impossible to find- there are a lot about and without a reg number or with one its a tall order. Vicroads don't give out private info but a note under the windscreen would work.

Making progress. See post re SLYMX5. Just shows there's always light at the end of the tunnel if you look for it - and there are always people who will think of it as an oncoming train. Cup have full or half empty, eh?

Zero you are welcome to guess but up the motor size to 1500cc. When you mention the name Javelin people think of the US car but the Brits got there before that. A flat four and interesting innovations were a remarkable thing for a Yorkshire co known for Bradford vans. For MX5 fans perhaps of a certain age take a look at the Jupiter - a sports car of the 50's with an aluminium body and a flat four- they can bring GBP 30,000 in UK.

MM - thanks for the quick reply - I think I have only ever seen one of the Jowett Roadsters and funny, my grandfather had a Bradford 2 cyl when I was a very little kid, Grandma hated it that much thru lack of power he bought a Commer ute [you could say a Hillman Ute] and had that from around 1954 thru until he died in 1989
I travel from Caboolture to Brisbane every day for work, 50km on an express train and as we would come past Kelly Wrecking at Carseldine I would check out the Jowett Javelin sitting on 3-5 cars along the fenceline - I do have a photo taken with my phone and will try and upload - only the other day I wondered had it been crushed with the other wrecks or just moved
Right now I will stick with my rare 1989 B-Spec Eunos, taking it tomorrow and running Happy Laps at Lakeside 30 August - VIN 102811 but supposedly built 5-9-89 according to that Russian website or whatever it is

De-reg'd means interstate or wreckers. If so, it is gone forever, without a trace.

Can you do a revs check on the vin, that would show up a write-off (I assume). If not, it might show an interstate current rego ...

I never met a horsepower I didn't like (thanks bwob)
