I can't begin to imagine how much wastage and temper and time it would cost if I did the same job.

Speaking of wheel colours, can anyone explain Mazda Australia's thinking behind the colours for the wheels and side mirrors for the various cars in the range?

The cheapest car (1.5 Roadster) and most expensive (2.0 GT) come with silver wheels and body-coloured mirrors, whilst the two mid-priced options (1.5 GT & 2.0 Roadster) come with gunmetal wheels and piano black mirrors.

Obviously these are just superficial differences, but from a marketing perspective it seems quite odd to make the most expensive variant practically visually indistinguishable from the cheapest as it drives by.

Yes - they are not the darker wheels but they are not silver either - they are a darker than the silver look and they are quite nice in person and UNIQUE to the top GT model.

How does the acceleration of the 1.5L ND compare to the 2.0L NC? Anyone dríven both and can comment?

Wheels magazine clocked 0-100km/hr in 7.3s for the 1.5L Roadster GT with a 100kg+ passenger. That feels about right from my experience.

The Americans have got 5.8s for 0-60mph from their 2.0L, so a low 6 is likely for 0-100km/hr with passenger. Bare in mind that the 2.0L has a 1000rpm lower rev limit than the smaller engine. They are designed to be different in character.

I have been very pleased with the punchiness of the 1.5L, and I haven't gone over 6000rpm yet (1000km service is booked for this Tuesday). I know most will opt for the 2.0L but I prefer the purity and high revs of the 1.5L - once mine is run in it will regularly see 6000-7500rpm. It's plenty fast enough for me.

Dilbert, have you seen a 2.0 litre GT in person ? I didn't know that any had arrived in Australia yet. My brochure shows a pic and describes the 2.0 GT wheels as being "17-inch alloy wheels (bright silver)". The 1.5 litre GT has what are described as 16-inch alloy wheels (gunmetal)". Sounds like you are describing the gunmetal wheels on the 1.5litre GTs, which have arrived in Aust.

Don't think a stock aussie NC 2.0 ever dipped into the 6s.
The yanks have reported that, but they only go to 96..

Ah fair enough - sounds like the 1.5L has a decent amount of grunt then when compared to the older models.

Yes. Correct. And the "BRIGHT SILVER" 2.0L GT wheels have not been shown in public in Australia yet.
I have seen them in person (not in Australia).

They are NOT the same as the base car silver wheels (but of course not as dark as the gunmetal wheels).

So we had ND-Day at Blue Mountains Mazda (MX5 Club of NSW sponsor) today. :mrgreen:

The guys put on a great event with 6 NDs on hand for viewing, two of which were also available for test drives.
A great attendance from the club members, hopefully it translated into some more sales for the guys! :wink:

That's an awful lot of MX5s in the car park! :shock:

Nice to see all 5 generations lined up in a row too.
