Caliper compatibility (mx5 - 323 - 626)

Postby Gladiator » Sat Apr 28, 2012 8:36 am

Can anyone tell me if the rear brake calipers on an NA6 are compatible with the 323 or 626 calipers of the same era?

Cheers

Good question.

I think the 323 had drum brakes at the rear right up until the late 90s (exceptions being the sporty models)

626 I'm not sure.

You're right. I've just got back from the wreckers who told me they were a match. THEY ARE NOT.

I've got an early nineties BG Astina 323 sitting in the shed. It has 4 wheel discs but the calipers and pads are different from any MX5 that I've. seen.

You can use brake-pad listings to help ascertain close compatibility.

I know the rear calipers on the laser are a direct match with the na6.

A BA 94-98 mazda 323 astina (1.8, not 1.6) share the same rear rotor and pad with a na8/nb8, so assume the caliper is the same. I will add a side note to this that the 2.0 V6 version has the same rear rotors+pads, but the rotors are 5x114.3 stud pattern and the hub size is 67mm.

A BG 90-94 (1.8 DOHC, not 1.8 SOHC/not 1.6) share the same with NA6 from memory, but I really haven't delt with BGs or NA6s to confirm.

BG = KF/KH Laser
BA = KJ/KL Laser
