car has always ran well. I did blame it a bit earlier on when it was running rough and thought it was plugs and other stuff so did a plug change. in the end it turned out to be just heat soak from the territories daily 30 plus top end heat and the intercooler dropping the performance.

a few days back I did an oil change behind the cabin in the caravan park we were staying at. one of the attendants came over and said what's going on with the car. told him I had what appears to be a bad oil leak from the sump plug and I didn't want it dropping oil all through the park.

couldn't do much about the filter side but did get close to 4 litres of good quality oil back into the sump

back in town I pulled up here and looked up at the street sign

Image

interesting street sign I thought but that's not the bustard I am looking for

Image

later that day and further along the road I found the bustard or plains turkey i'd been looking about for. pretty good eating too but these days protected species by law

last couple of days lots of kangaroos dead on the road. in the centre and on the edges. in some sections 6 or 8 bowled over in one hit. so far since mt isa I'd say I have seen several hundred dead roos on the road. from overnight kills to different stages of decay.
not small ones either - big reds

What an amazing journey! Thanks for sharing it with us! 8)

We used to note that the goats were a lot smarter than the roos, I've never seen a dead goat on the road, but during the droughts a few years ago we saw literally thousands of dead kangaroos between Dubbo and Broken Hill (and nearly cleaned up a few ourselves)

Good luck at the doc. :|

What a fantastic trip, and the car proved quite the trooper to carry you the whole way with very few issues. Thanks for sharing the story and the pictures.

How do you feel about the car after a trip like that? I wonder if spending that much time in it over just a couple of weeks might wear on you? Or does it strengthen the bond?

Hope nothing too serious is taking you to the Hospital!

That was one helluva trip, there can't be too many places where you suffer heat-soak one day and a few days later are driving in snow.

Thanks for taking us on the trip.
