Cruise Control 2000 NBa

Just spent 7 hours in the "MX" back from Brunswick Heads (where it was soo warm) to Newcastle yesterday. Had a couple of breaks. Drove barefoot cause you can move the foot around more. Car went great 630 km no worries but my foot was cramping. Can anyone recommend a type and brand of cruise control that can be fitted to a 2000 NBa. Ideally from personal experience.

Stop every 2 hours and get out of the car and you arrive in better shape.

Several years ago Nick Viner put one in his Titanium, it came from Auscruise and cost just under $700 supplied and installed and he was very happy with it.

I spent a substantial amount of time researching CC's for the mx5, and especially ones suitable for FI applications.
Only one name kept coming up (on all the forums) that was affordable, well supported for DIY'ers, reliable, and well finished...Rostra.
I fitted a Rostra 250-1223 Universal Cruise Control Kit with 250-3742 Lighted Handle Stalk to my SE.
One of the best mods I have done, as this car is my long distance tourer.
I paid $US219.21 in August 2014 (via ebay) which included shipping. The AUD wasn't too bad at that time either.
(Having an eBay 15% off birthday sale on that day helped sway my decision too!)
The CC itself is awesome, and is servo (not vacuum) controlled, which is want is need for the turbo motor.

Not hard to fit, but took me a bit of time as I wanted the wiring and installation to look "factory" so I had to fabricate/weld some brackets because i am fussy like that....

had a look at the that Rostra on line. The stalk seems a bit small. Is that fitted on the steering column? My Mx5 is not is not a Turbo so maybe a vacum model is more suitable? Also, have seen vacum servo units for sale at wreckers. Perhaps buying one of them then sourcing the rest of the parts.

Looks like mine is a Rosta. It's vacuum operated on an atmo car, I have had in the GM for about 15 years, and wouldn't be without it. It was bought from, and installed by, and auto electrical shop in Canberra.

I put in an AP60 from ebay 7 years ago. It's the cheapest one you can buy. As a country driver I use it every day and I still can't fault it. Having a little control pad mounted beside the base of the gearlever works much better than a stalk in an MX5 because everything is much closer together than in a bigger car.

The guy who sold me the SE with the Auscruise system installed couldn't stop raving about how good it was. I can't agree anymore on that. I can hardly detect any change whether the car is going up a moderately steep hill or downhill as it maintains speed seamlessly. This system is Australian made. The only downside on this system is the control stalk is mounted onto the steering column right behind the wiper stalk so the operating light is not visible. Everything is done by feel. Otherwise the installation looks OEM.

Just quoted $1000 for Auscriuse supplied and fitted from Alapaha Kotara. Ouch! Hoping for something or somewhere cheaper?

Thanks to Google maps/earth, it appears to be what is now Battery World/Lee & Thomas (Grenville Crt Phillip), what it was then I haven't a clue.
