Yeah, there were several significant changes made to mine by Dann during the tuning. Haltech have recorded the changes, and I believe they will be selling a PnP loom loom/ecu soon :)


Thanks for this info. People may have seen some of the issues I had with a Haltech PS1000 on my SE. I'll now be talking to Haltech about why they left me high and dry whereas they've sorted issues for other people.

I'm betting it was a case of the installer doing a LOT of the legwork figuring out what was wrong/needed and a LOT of back and forth conversations with Haltech to sort it out.
The more information you can provide the better, Haltech (and most companies) just don't have the manpower to handle all configurations and figure out all issues so they typically target specific vehicles and models, especially for new ECUs - MX5s would not be considered a big enough market to make them a priority for ECU manufacturers so it's up to individuals to get them working.


Hmmm. Haltech and the installer both said they had plug and play kit specifically for an SE. They were wrong, by an enormous margin.

Lokiels is 100% correct, none of this would be even close to possible without Danns countless hours of work making the necessary changes.
There are still some issues, I will be dropping it back to him soon for some tweaks.

The issues with the PS1000 were 2 wires in the wrong spot.

Both of the above, and got no help from Haltech. Didn't think the installer asked them properly so I prompted Haltech to contact him diplomatically. With hindsight I should have had him restore the car to standard and refund all the money after he'd spent the first two months failing to get it right.

Yup, these are about 75% of the issues I've had, except mine have been spread between half a dozen people who've let me down rather than just one. In my defence, it was because I ended up having to try to find one person who I could trust to do the work properly. In their defence ......... ......... nope, there's nothing to say in their defence.

The damn alternator regulation is what is so hard with NBs. Takes a lot of tuner patience (thanks Dann :D)

Not surprised about the alternator hassles.

Alternator control has always been an issue with NBs; some guys even switched their NB alternators to NA alternators to work around this.

Adaptronic ECUs now have alternator input which makes tuning NBs a LOT easier - this caused me hours of grief with my Adaptronic Gen1 e440 ECU (piggyback version) that didn't have it vs the current generation e440 (standalone). For DIYers, IMO, this alone is worth choosing the Adaptronic ECU over other ECUs.

Latest ms3 gear has full support for NB alternator in the software. Reports are that it works with zero issues.
