Scorpius's NB8B Franken SP Project
Hi guys, My name's Jack, you may call me Scorpius. Been lurking here for a while after I bought my Sunlight Silver NB8B and I'm planning to make it into a replica SP.
The cars's currently got 104k km's on the clock and looks like its hasnt had its major 100k service so I'm going to do this myself soon. So far I've added a JVC Bluetooth Head unit and Pioneer 6x9 inch speakers in the rear shelf, those speakers have been sitting on my bookshelf for like 10 years in the box as I bought them when I first got my license and was heaps keen to put them in my parents cars that I was driving. Turned out they wont fit and parents won't let me drill holes in the car so I've kept them for over 10 years. Guess what they still sound great
He's my plan for it going forward, starting with the service and cosmetics.

You should probably be aware that reserving posts doesn't work on this forum, since you can't edit posts beyond I think 30mins of posting.
Personally I think it's a sh*t policy, but I don't make the rules.

I think you may have sp mixed up with se? I wouldnt call alot of those standard se parts upgrades either, theres a reason why people ditch them for aftermarket becuase there usually not the best in one way or another. Just depends what your trying to get out of it i guess.

Welcome to the forum
Which wheels were you thinking of for $600?
You'll most likely need some tyres as well if you're doing the popular 15" wheel upgrade.

Welcome.
Where are you based? Probably good to add that to your info so everyone sees it on the side of all your posts.
The MSM bodykit you mention will probably make it look like an SE, not an SP (MSM is short for Mazdaspeed Miata, which is the USAland equivalent to our SE).
Most people with 17" wheels end up wanting to upgrade them to 15". But I can put you in touch with a seller who has SE 17" wheels and tyres for sale for $600 if you like.

UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Re: Scorpius's NB8B Franken SP Project
The wheels I'm getting have come off an SE. Getting it mostly for looks since the stock wheels look a bit too curvy. They will come with tyres as well.
Maybe further down the line if I end up tracking this car I'll go the for 15" wheels like my mate and many of the ppl in this forum have done. I normally go to Eastern Creek on my main ride, GSXR600. But having a track car and track bike is too much, I want to keep this car tame for the road.

Hey man, all the best with your build.
Im moving forwards from where you want to end up (does that makes sense(wine is doing some talking)).
Can I suggest raising your sights a bit, if you pilot a gixxer then you will probably want what is available to you, a t25 on rx8 yellows is fun (220awhp) but for the same money or less you could have it all that an unbuilt bp motor can offer at 250whp.

Thanks IanR, I'm having heaps of fun with it already, had to pick up a Toyota 1MZ-FE loom today after work and was giving it some spirited driving in a quiet Industrial area, the way its so composed mid corner is astounding. I'm getting more used to the car every day, and the shifter is a joy to click through.
I don't to go all out with this car, after the things I've already mentioned in my first post, add a torsen, rollbar and new set of coilovers and I'll be happy. Seeing as my other ride is a Gixer if I want to go balls out I'll jump on that, its pretty much a track bike (not technically street legal anymore) - and has been pretty well sorted out according to my standards.
The MX5 is for pure pleasure and leisure.

Re: Scorpius's NB8B Franken SP Project
Got some new bits today, one of the head lights blown so I got a set of Phillips WhiteVision bulbs as replacement.
A harness from a Toyota 1MZ-FE to make a COP's conversion:
and one of omgpham's COP bracket to go with it:
The mazdaspeed front and real lips have arrived as well, so this weekend I'm going sand, prime and paint them, and take some pictures to document a part of the process.

That coil bracket won't work on a VVT valve cover.
