What dose it your cost to drive a Km?

Justifying if I will keep the SE

Just re registed the SE 2000k in 12 months

so thats $700 rego $700 insurance and say $1000 depreation + servicing $500
and 4 tanks fuel $300? that and new tyers every 4 years max $200 a year so thats $3400 per year or $1.70 per Km

Have I missed anything ?

The utility that you get driving it. Loss on sale? look up the ATO and see what the cost per km is and this is an all inclusive rate. Actually it is $0.76 per KM so at your call of $1.70 it should go.

Well, if you need to justify the costs of ownership to keep what is essentially a toy, then maybe it's time to sell.

I have a few cars, the only one I worry about costs for is the work ute, and only then to make sure I track all costs for the tax man. Other than that, my toys cost what they cost.

If I needed to justify my cars I would be in a world of hurt and pain with:
NA6, has done less than 3200km in almost 18 months, spend what it needs in maintenance.
S14 race car, is still being built as I have the dollars, hasn't moved in 12 months and have just pulled the trigger on getting the bottom end of the motor built.
VH Charger, 15 year checque book restoration, don't want to know how much I have spent over the years but would be in excess of $60k, hopefully will be in colour in the next couple of months as the weather gets better and before the humidity kicks in up here.

Mine is over $4 per km taking into account fuel, tyres, brakes, rego, ins, servicing....

If you don't like the $ per km ratio, then drive it more. Improves the ratio...

Agree with MattR - if you are calculating to this extent on what is a relatively cheap car to run...get rid of it.

Would love to drive it more but Im only in Australia a few months a year now also have 2 other cars another 2 on club rego 2 bikes .Time to thinks things over :lol:

Sooo, you've got five cars, two bikes, and only in the country a few months a year, and you are worrying about $/km???

Simple decision. Quit the worrying or sell a few off..

I think it is a good question and one that more people should ask and understand. The RACV and NRMA run their cost of owning currently new vehicles with known data. The costs of running cars is pretty scary. For many people there is a line drawn in the sand of not being reckless with expenditure.

The data they use is ORC for the vehicle / Trade in value after 5 yrs / total standing costs- $/week depreciation, interest ( on say a loan) rego insurance / Total running costs-fuel, tyres maintenance- / total cost per KM (they use 15000klm) Etc For a bit of info behind the numbers take a look on their web sites.

I think its quite valid to see what are the real costs of owning the car and then weighing it up as to whether "its worth it" .

I went through this dilemma after being knocked from my motorcycle, realising that I was unable to ride one I sold all of them. It was heartbreaking and I still have regrets. Now I find myself facing the same situation, cars, bike, sail boat etc.....

Maybe ask your mistress whether she would miss it if you sell it? (sounds like you are The Bossman with 5 cars and two bikes, overseas during the year etc. I'm guessing you have a couple of missuses on the side #donthatetheplayahatethegame :mrgreen:

I am doing a cost rundown on mine; the past year it has consumed ~1700L fuel, costing around $2600 (95RON and it's not turbocharged :cry:

) and I am using it as a daily. Not the most economical or practical car to drive, although it is fun to drive.

Rego is coming again at $767 for the year
Full Comprehensive insurance is ~$400 for the year
Servicing - $35 oil and filter change and other small items done myself, other 'bigger service items' will be taken to a proper mechanic (no issues so far)
Washer fluid 2L ~$20 (major compromise on this car, seems to be fitted with a midget 250mL reservoir as I'm filling it up every 2 weeks it seems!)
Car care products like carwash, sponges, microfibre towels, leather conditioning creams $80
Tyres - $550 every 4 years possibly, RE002 or similar.

Yet to calculate the price per km, but I'm guessing it would be much much more in comparison to yours.

I'm certainly not wealthy, I work two jobs so I can afford to play with my cars of which there are 3, my white 1991 MX5, my Missano blue Alfa Brera 3.2 V6 and my daily drive which is a mazda 3 MPS, my cars are my main source of relaxation so the cost is irrelevant
