I wear one almost every day.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

I prefer a hoodie to a suit jacket in winter but have been told that the hoodie makes me look menacing. Meh, it keeps me warm.

ZL, Sucks that your car was broken into but good that you interrupted them and kept your wheel and gearknob.

My opinion is that if they want to get into your car then they will. Even if you had a hardtop they would just go through the door or window.

If there was one "rule" to take from the movie pulp fiction in my head it would be 'never mess with another man's automobile'!

Haha, is always more menacing when a stranger has his head in your engine bay. :)

How easy is it to wire up the 12V battery to the soft-top frame, so that when you arm/lock the doors the framework is live?

Now what about the roof repair. I mentioned ducktape on the inside.

Any other ideas??

Depends how bad the damage is, but caravan/camping repair places can often do good repairs cheaply.

I suppose it depends on how long the slash is but when I was looking at MX5's to purchase one I saw a rip (old age of the material) that had been repaired by stitching in a piece of material (patch) the same or similar to the soft-top. The rip was about 50mm long and it had been very neatly hand stitched.................I dare say by a very experienced motor trimmer. I would imagine that a sealant was probably between the materials.
Sorry, can't tell you where it was done but the brains trust on this forum may have had dealings with good motor trimmers.
BTW, the car I saw was in Sydney and I didn't buy it, I bought another one with a roof in very good condition and only yesterday I gave it a good dose of boot polish and it came up a treat.

The cheap and easy way is duct tape.
Works ok, but you'll be replacing the tape every so often.

I'd go to a motor trimmer, boat trimmer, or even clarke rubber, adn ask about vinyl patches.

Pretty sure i;ve seen patches that are a very similar material to the roof, you just apply some glue and sticl it on the ripped part.
A lot neater than tape, and should last for years.

alternatively, just buy another torn roof off someone and cut patches out of it then glue them on with contact adhesive (waterproof obviously)

Thanks for the response.

The cut is about 20cm by 20cm a cross cut.
I stitch it up so it doesn't collapse down, have to duct tape over it to keep rain out last few days.

Any way i was told today my third party fire/theft insurance (NRMA) would cover this? Just wondering if thats so?
If so if i make a claim today will my insurance be more expensive next year? I'm looking to buy a more expensive roadster, want to get comprehensive but don't want to pay the price of the car in 5 years of insurance payment.

Thanks in advance for the input. ^.^

Unfortunately, I don't think that advice is correct.

Third party fire and theft usually only covers if teh car is stolen or set on fire by someone.

Anything else is your own cost.

Call them and ask, but I'm pretty sure that in this case it's not covered (unless they consider damage like this part of the "theft" aspect..... I doubt it though since insurance cos arent in the business of making payouts easy)
