You can reduce the compression lockups (without H&T) by releasing the clutch more slowly, allowing the wheels to rotate up to match the engines speed without losing traction.
You can still practice the heel and toeing using a slow clutch takeup to stop lockups, and the better you get at heel/toe the faster you can release the clutch with no ill effects.
