Not sure if a manual bias valve will void insurance. They would have to argue that it contributed to the accident... It is not as if you can adjust the bias on the fly as it is in the engine bay. (similar to what madjak just posted).
With respect to some classes of racing an in cabin bias adjustment will bump you up a class. I can see no real reason why you would want to tweak the brake bias on the fly whilst driving on public roads.

I thought it worked the other way, you need to argue that it didn't.
Normally Insurance will just go through what is/isnt legal for the road, and I have a gut feeling that a bias valve wouldn't be legal without engineer approval (same as with any other braking mods other than pads/rotors)
Even Braided lines aren't legal in a lot of cases (many not having ADR approval)
In saying all that, it's been ages since I read the legislation, and when I did read it I only skimmed over the braking sections since it didn;t apply to me.
Easiest, ask your insurance co. (although it's still up to you to make sure the car is legal per Vicroads or whoever your state regulator is)

RileyR I just noticed that you were in Toowoomba. There are a few members on here that live up there and occasionaly organise drives/meets/coffee. Yeah, just been lazy. I have an aim lap time to get before I do anything more major to the car, I figure if the previous owner can do it, I should be able to as well. When I match/beat the time, I'll install it. Already know a few places where the extra rear bias with help.

Getting the rear in a MX5 to work actually helps braking a lot and you can't really do that with the stock valve. Plus they are cheap and a 10 min install.

I'll see what I can organise for a meet then of a few MX5 drivers in the Lockyer Valley area. I'm not home that often at the moment plus my car is on/off the road as well. Maybe 8/9 or 22/23 August as dates. If you can't wait and want a nice drive head to the Southbound BP at Burpengary at around 0700 on any Sat/Sun for Roger's coffee meet and chat.
September 5 is the Cootha Classic and there will be a few MX5's running as well as some MX5 owners watching. It will be a good place to hear Danny's 20B PP MX5 NC, you could even hear it if you stay in Toowoomba. Maximun Attack (like Jap Nats time attack format) is at QR on 19/09/15 (subject to enough entries).

My first mx5 was a 1.6 so braking and corner speed was the only spot I could beat the other cars. At Barbagallo I was easily the latest braking car in the entire field, including the open wheelers. It helps that you're not going that fast to begin with and you can spend your time down the straight aiming for your braking point. The little NA6 front rotors would glow at night with sparks flying off the pads so it was no wonder I chewed through them so fast. Even with the prop valve my rears hardly wore but you could see they were getting hot so they were doing something. With the 1.8, I'm much more frantic in the car and so have less time to settle between corners. Even though I've got double the power and better brakes, I'm still only 2-3 seconds quicker. This is because I'm finding that I'm washing off too much speed under brakes and not nailing the corner speed.
By adding a prop valve and good rear pads, you'll gain 15% better braking straight out of the bag. Also, more rear bias (up to a point) actually helps stability under brakes. So if your having to brake over crests or on bumpy roads, the right amount of rear will help hold the car in line. You definitely still want your fronts to lock first otherwise you'll be facing backwards a lot.

Yep, would agree that bias valve was one of the more noticeable improvements I added to braking system. You really feel the rear settle more equally.
