A/C Installation

Postby HandyAndy » Tue Jul 21, 2015 4:36 pm

Hi all

I'm currently looking to upgrading from an NA6 to an NA8 and I've come across one example that I'm considering. The problem is that this particular NA8 doesn't have A/C and I don't think I'm willing to go without after experiencing last summer in a car without A/C. Normally I wouldn't even consider it but this looks like a very clean example. I know that people have retrofitted an NA8 system into their NA6 but I was wondering if anyone would know if it was possible to remove the A/C from my NA6 and put it into an NA8.

Common sense tells me that if the NA8 system fits and NA6, it works the other way around but I thought I would ask here first. One of my main concerns is the 1.6L compressor and bracket not fitting onto the side of the 1.8L block. The other issue is that the NA8 A/C cycle and fans are controlled by the ECU while the NA6 system is controlled by a relay that just tells the ECU to bump up the idle. If I simply swap everything over from my NA6 into the NA8 including relays, would everything work as normal? If anyone could shed some light onto this, it would be much appreciated

One thing to note about the original NA6 AC system was that it is an R12 system, versus the original NA8 AC system which is R134a: http://www.miata.net/garage/r134.html

Cheers, mate. My system was converted to a R134 system when I fixed a leak last year.

From the following it looks feasible:

http://www.maruhamotors.co.jp/miata/parts/ac1.html
But that's not to say it's PnP. If anyone's done it, it would be someone on the Big Forum - try a search initially though, if you haven't already: http://forum.miata.net/vb/

There migh also be some info of use in this:
