well here it is - after a 3 weeks run on all types of roads I got to this section :D it wasn't what i'd call a very good day at all. I had a head/side wind to deal with plus the aerodynamic back pack on the rear of the car . actually the first 50 klm was rough going and lots of ripples in the black stuff.
plus the ramps, did I mention the ramps bang, bang and bang. heaps of them scattered along this section of the tarmac plus heavy undergrowth either side of the road.
at around the 70 klm mark into the open speed limit section the road was in very very good condition and I sat on an easy 150 klm cruise.
several klm after that I pushed it a bit harder and had the rev counter sitting on 6200 revs in top gear and doing a healthy 160 kph - sh*t ! it felt really really fast  :NETPOINTZ: :NETPOINTZ:
afterwards thinking back on the above run i have no doubts at all without the backpack on the mx5 I could have pulled 7000 revs in top gear or maybe even hit the limiter.
anyway its now back to the legal 130 kph cruising which after a while appears slow till you hit a 100kph zone and you feel like you have stopped.

We did a trip to Darwin a number of years ago, and I was talking to our bus driver about the speed limits. We were in a 130kph zone at the time and he laughed and said you can always tell the tourists - they're the ones doing the 130! He said most of the locals are happy just sitting on around 90-110!! Too hard at 130!!! ... he was a Darwinian after all ... going by the hotel and restaurant service at the time, they're never in a hurry! - very laid back

edit: .... btw - starting to get real p'd off how clean your car's staying!!!!

You have to expect that in the NT - "NT" actually stands for "Not Today", "Not Tomoorrow", "Not Tuesday", "Not Thursday".

PS: I reckon he's photoshopped his car in these shots - no way can it be that clean can it?

You guys do realise he's only travelling about 150 km per day.....

After all there's the 2 hour full detail every morning, 30 minute wipe down before each photo, and the 3 hours of uploading photos and posting on forums each evening!

There's not much time left for driving after all that....

Actually the truth is that when he repainted the car White a few years ago he used a Teflon based paint!

Was that maxed out in top gear (6th) doing 160 km/h? Have you changed the gearing?

Id so love to head to a no speed zone one day, might just have to head off an a trip one day like you have done.

Great photo's btw, looks like your having a blast.

Beautiful photos, don't you hate when you go somewhere epic like that and some wanker has defaced it.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.
