Header Questions!

Postby onmyzephyr » Sat Jul 11, 2015 7:38 pm

Hi guys,

Just got a new set of aftermarket headers for my NA8.

Just have a couple of questions -

Will removing the header heat shield cause excessive heat in the engine bay? when i install the headers?

Has anyone had experience with exhaust wrap?

Cheers,

It depends on the headers and your setup. If you have a CAI and it sits very close to the headers then it pays to put reflective heat tape on the CAI where it's close to the headers. $10 worth from fleabay will do it. if the headers come very close to the heater and water pump hoses then it's worth wrapping those with the same stuff. If the headers come very close to the firewall down near the passenger feet then there's a slight risk of you getting excess heat around the ECU. i had to add some ACL heat shield to the firewall to bring those inside temps down.

I'd stay away from header heat wrap. It's a PITA at first and it goes horribly downhill from there.
