Mx5 mania intake installation (rattles & mounting)

Hey there, I've recently installed a mania intake I bought off another forum user, with help from mx5 factory in order to drill thehole. Anyway I'm currently having a few issues. The first of which is exactly how this system is designed to be mounted and the second of which is a rattle at WOT.

I'm not sure if the intake is supposed to come with mounting brackes or now but at the moment I've reinstalled the bottom of my airbox and used cable ties to secure the intake. It looks/feels a bit dodgy but it holds it in quite well so if there is no better option I may just leave it at is, I'm just curious as to how other people have mounted this system?

As for the rattle, this seems pretty well known on the forum, im just curious as to how people have solved it
At the moment I've got some duct tape around the end, but it doesn't really remove the rattle, I also can't really get much around the end of the Intake as the 76mm hole is so tight, so much so that its nearly impossible to even get duct tape in between the intake and the end of the hole, I'll probably give it another go this afternoon, but if anybody has another solution that would be great to hear

my old na6 had an alloy bracket coming up from a bolt hole down on the chassis rail.It looked like something you could make out of scrap aluminium in about 5 minutes.

Usually they're mounted with a strip of metal that bolts to the AFM and then to the car body at the other end.

The rattle, it's possible it's the intake, but by the nature of where it draws the air it can quite easily be a lot of other stuff in the area.

then I had one on my car the glovebox used to vibrate like mad.

You can leave the bottom half of the OEM airbox in place as it provides a bit of shielding, especially if you've got aftermarket headers & have had to remove the OEM heatshield. Then, as noobee suggests, find or make a narrow L shaped metal bracket & drill a couple of holes in it so the L shaped bracket can be screwed onto the top of the bottom half of the airbox as well as the side of the AFM just behind the CAI airfilter.

If the CAI tube is that tight a fit it might not be the cause of the rattle - you might find it's the top end of the CAI pipe vibrating against the black plastic water drainer above it at the top of the windscreen cowl.

it was mounted in my car with a 15mm wide (3mm thick) aluminium strap that was bent in an 'L' and connected to the hose clamp. The bottom of the 'L' mounted to a factory hole in the chassis.

I meant to send it along with that intake when I shipped it but it has been re-purposed and trimmed. I'll try and find a photo of it.

Alright well i'm actually reasonably happy with my mounting arrangement (at least, semi permanently) I'm pretty tool-less skill-less and money-less but i'll keep it mind for my future projects. Would definitely like a picture if you have one, or if anyone else wants to snap a picture of theirs. As for the rattle, i did think it could be the plastic cover, i'll have a better look when it isn't raining and dark. I might empty out my glovebox and see if that's the rattle as well.

Tool wise you can make one easily with a hacksaw, a drill, and a hammer.

if you've got a vice then the job becomes 100x easier.

all you really need to do is measure the distance from the car body, to the AFM screws, then add another 30mm or so.

Cut the steel/alloy to length, drill a hole in one end, bend that end with the hammer (so there's a 30mm tab)
Drill a hole or two for the AFM screws, then bolt it all on.

and alternative for measuring is to just use an old cereal box and make the bracket out of that. Then use that as a template.
