Good point Chris thanks for raising that.
Whilst the issue or non-issue of turbo cars was raised, the committee’s view was and remains that the build of a given car is not relevant in time based classes. You are competing with racers in the same time bracket as you, pure and simple. It is not a perfect classing system – name one that is (in the real world). But it has definite advantages, which have been well covered elsewhere.
We are addressing any concerns of ‘sand bagging’ by eliminating break outs. You break out you get bumped. And we will be monitoring performance. If a competitor’s times are materially different from those recorded previously – for a given driver, build, set-up and conditions – questions will be asked. We want racers competing in earnest, not driving to a time. Both these points are contained in the regs.
To relegate turbos to a different competition or classes is contrary to the principles of time based classes. Turbo cars will be in various time brackets up and down the field, and they want to be competing with everybody, not a much reduced pool of cars.
