Re: Would you ceramic coat extractors on a street-only MX5?
There are also two types of heat: (1) convection heat, from the air touching the heated surface, and (2) radiated heat. Radiated heat is easy to prevent by placing any sort of shielding material between the hot parts and the required cold parts. Convection heat can be fixed by increasing airflow, wrapping, ceramic coating etc but is generally only an issue if your sucking it into your intake or it's cooking something you don't want melted.
In general, even if you have ceramic coating, wrapping or shielding on your headers, you don't really want to be sucking air from the engine bay anyway. The engine itself gets very hot and the headers only contribute a proportion of the total heat. A simple CAI will solve a lot of your problems and give you a larger performance boost at much less the cost of ceramic coating.
Also, heating issues due to exhaust heat is generally only a problem on a race car that's seeing massive loads for a sustained period of time. Most race cars have critical items ie sensors and wiring on the cold side of the engine so the heat from the headers isn't an issue anyway. If it is then the headers are wrapped or ceramic coated, or work is done to get better airflow over the exhaust.
Your question on this forum was answered pretty clearly. Unless you're only interested in looks, there is very little point to ceramic coat an extractor on a street-only car. Especially given it's a hurricane. If you're looking for performance increases there are many upgrades that you'd do first, eg a CAI of some sort instead. Of course, it's your dollars, just don't go critising the response of a forum that's impatient to new members who post repeats and aren't going to listen to advice anyway. There was already a perfectly good thread for this post... it didn't need another one.
Also on MT.net you'd have been slammed. Go give it a shot. Here you actually got responses and somewhat of a discussion.

My understanding is..... turbos generate a lot more heat than extractors
There are a number of different types of ceramic coating
The black will handle far more heat than the silver
Has anyone ceramic coated a turbo...seems they ceramic coat many parts in high performance applications....pistons, valves etc

"turbos generate heat"
You are banned from this discussion until you have read a lot more books.
thankyou.

Fair point
I see there are a number of sites that expouse

NitroDann & Co... For the record I won't be getting my headers ceramic coated, so you can put your 'Terry the Turbo Tiger' jimmy-jams on tonight and sleep easy. I have concluded that after assessing ALL the feedback received on this forum (from Gods and mere mortals,) it sounds like a waste of money for a road car. I promise that in the future before I do something as heinous and inflammatory as asking a question about modifying an mx5... on an mx5 forum, I will think twice. My bad.

To the other Dan who commented above (non-Nitrous variety), thanks for that feedback regarding heat shielding in the Evo. Interesting. Melting my Loch Stewart airbox is a genuine concern, and kinda the point to my original post before the hysteria.

If you ceramic coat you could the color match the header, turbo and roll bar, so many hard parking point. No not ceramic coat the roll bar, then again this is a good question to ask the forum ...

haha! NitroDann, see this where you get a little nutty again. Mate, I'm not "trolling". It was a legit question. I thought a hot manifold could burn a hole in fibreglass? Pardon my ignorance but you could just answer "Melting won't be a problem'. You know, like administrators on forums do. ANyways, if you're saying fibreglass won;t melt.. that's great news. Cheers
Magpie, do you sit on NitroDann's shoulder or in his lap?

NitroDann and myself are at different ends of the political spectrum. We disagree on more than we agree.
I would never sit in his lap, he is not my type (too old) and I'm too heavy to sit on his shoulder. Are you looking for company?

It's not that their wrong, but danns taken a dislike to your understanding of physics / compression / heat and decided you need to go learn more about these topics to improve your base knowledge.
Madkeen: glad you've been able to reach a conclusion your happy with after a "exhausting" literature review into the topic.
