but lots of opinions were given....with no backup data

as previously offered....I'm Happy for tests to be done to see if heat in engine bay is reduced and exhaust gas heat increased

If more people on this forum weren't obviously keen for your turbo-tuning prowess, they'd call your behaviour for what it is; You're a bully mate. People dismiss it as 'Oh that's just whacky attitude-giving Dann' but that doesn't make it acceptable. There's a difference between personality and rudeness.

I have heaps of data (EGT's, intake/engine bay temps) on Racing Beat headers running E85 and 98. Hopefully at the end of the year a few different headers will be tested, however the cost of dyno hire and getting a few different headers is the fun part. The question is if this is done why should I share if I have to pay for it.

If you are going to ceramic coat make sure you do inside and out.

I disagree Odd, the OP knew asking this question would elicit a response as per the first post. Plus, I'm old but not a pack animal.

It's ok to ignore NitroDann's advice though.

It's not worth questioning NitroDann's advice.

Nearly all advice on here is worthwhile. I reckon it's all well intentioned. NotroDann's is both.

No argument....if that is the question

However if the real question is
What are the positives/negatives?
Will it reduce engine bay temps?
Will it protect my headers from rust?
Will it look pretty?

Perhaps God has answered the wrong question

No data on ceramic coatings. What I do use is the difference between the temperature of the air coming into the mouth and the engine bay temp.

Heat soak is at its worse when the car is stopped and there is no airflow through the engine bay. Ensuring there is adequate airflow through the engine bay is a better decision in my opinion than ceramic coating the headers. Once the air flow is solved then other heat management issues can be used. Ceramic coating may mask a bigger problem, however if they reduce heat soak when there is no air flow then it could be a good thing.

However if the real question is
What are the positives/negatives? You already know this performance (unknown amount) & reduced heat in engine bay / cost
Will it reduce engine bay temps? yes
Will it protect my headers from rust? Yes, superficially
Will it look pretty - if you get silver it'll look better the off coloured stainless

Let's stop dick measuring and move on now. The forum is like life, don't like talking to people discussing a topic - move on.

Just understand that many come and ask question not caring about a real answer. It's ok the first time, but the 8th 12th and 25th time it get to be a drag. It's not something you'll understand till you've been around a while.

I know it's not the same car but I think it illustrates how shielding can sometimes be more effective in preventing parts from being damaged due to proximity to heat even if the part has a coating on it.

The 'track dog racing' heat shield is what I'm considering getting for my NC to shield the headers, it's not urgent as shielding is probably not required as it doesn't seem to get stupid hot but it couldn't hurt.
