Race Technology Dash2Pro

Is anyone on here using this dash display?

I'm in the current situation of wanting a few gauges to monitor engine vitals (Probably innovate dual gauge Coolant/oil temp/pressure etc though accuracy is questionable) so say <$500 in gauges
I also want to get a lap timer (looking at something like the Performance box). $850

This means loosing airvents or mounting them on the top of the dash AND having the lap timer on the windscreen.

OR: I could spend a little more (not much extra in the end) and get the Race Technology Dash2Pro w/GPS

All gauges and warnings I need in one dash, including logging and gps lap timing. Plus its (somewhat) road legal and discrete when turned off. Can completely replace the factory dash cluster and includes Odometer, indicators etc too.

So: Does anyone have this in their MX-5? How is the Glare? Do polarised sunglasses effect the display?

Lastly, and I think the clincher here: I don't have a standalone ECU yet (Eventually will go Adaptronic which will talk to this display) but in the mean time I will need to have it play nice with the factory ecu and the standard dash gauges.
I'm struggling to find info on how to make this work for the normal road going functions like indicators, fuel level, speedo, odometer etc)

Do I just make up a plug from the factory dash connectors to the appropriate wire on the dash2pro loom?
I can't use the OBDII/CAN link as it is painfully slow and laggy. RPM is beyond useless.

I need this to work at least as well as the factory cluster for daily duties and "Wife Approval"

Thoughts?

I have a display IQ3 and it is fine to look at no glare and no issues with polarised glasses.

The one issue you will have have to double up on sensors as well as have a backup for speed as GPS does not work all the time, for example in a tunnel. Another potential issue is getting fuel level displayed on the dash.

From a quick look the Dash comes with 4 and upto 8 analogue inputs. A wheel speed, oil/water temp and oil pressure will use 4 inputs. It does not take long to use inputs! Becareful of putting 2 pressure sensors on a T the weight and engine movement can fatigue the fitting. If possible put a flexible line in and put the sensor in the engine bay away from vibrations.

Keep us posted on what you decide as I'm looking at a logging dash as well.

Im looking at getting a Race Capture Pro 2 for my car. Its cheap, flexible and can use an android tablet as the dash. You can hook it up to CAN enabled ecus and use all their sensors and other data or hook it up to external analogue or digital sensors.

The more I look into them the more I want one. Just being able to review lap times, brake points, corner Gs etc on my mobile between sessions makes its cost very worth while.

What ecu are you using? Edit: stock ecu... i should read better!

That looks like a neat compact display that would complement the factory cluster. Though no lap timing?

With fuel etc, I was thinking I could do something like this:

If I trace out the lines on the back of the cluster to the fuel gauge and make sure I don't cut them, it should still work being plugged in with the factory plug.
I could put my boost gauge in the water temp spot and have room around it and the dash2 for warning lights and buttons.

I'm wondering though, if I should just hang off and put an Adaptronic ECU in first. And then get the dash later. Run all the sensors to the Adaptronic (so no doubling up on sensors etc) and it is designed to send everything to the dash2 straight up. I'm going to get the Adaptronic at some stage anyway and it looks easier to set up the dash2 with it than in a "standalone" setup.
Only thing Adaptronic wont send to the dash2 according to their video/info is speedo (though that was an oldish video so may be possible now) otherwise they do give info on how to connect the dash2 to the vehicles speed sensor for that.

I was going to do mine the same way, http://mx5cartalk.com/forum/viewtopic.php?p=804923#p804923 leaving the fuel gauge.

However went with a sensor that converts the ohm from the fuel to 0-5 volt then this is converted to litres and displayed on the dash http://www.ironcanyonmotorsports.com/icm-fuel-sender/. Once I got it sorted out it is very accurate and makes the dash install look very clean.

I still have to hook up the seperate warning, which will be a piezo alarm and that should be it completed. The buttons that control the dash are controlled by two buttons on the steering wheel. These are connected with curly cord and a plug so that it can be disconnect when the steering wheel is taken off.

I would do the ECU first then the dash, you will get more benefit doing it this way, not to mention cheaper (less sensor double up).
