Got hit by "the bog" again last night. Cleaning to l that solenoid just moved up my to do list!

Personally I'd upgraded the solenoid to a better one. I haven't had an issue since. Cost I think $80?

My clutch is slippin' and my bog is boggin'.

Neither are catastrophic right now, but fixes for both are incomming.

Yesterday I dropped the car into Automotive Plus for the clutch replacement. Jeff recommended the Exedy Sport Organic Level 1 clutch kit. Seems it's a racing clutch so clamps harder and can hold more torque, but should retain an OEM feel. I also took the oportunity to have a Stainless Steel clutch line put in, and repalce the rear main seal while they were in there.

My clutch was really feeling worn last week, it felt like I was down on power - probably because I was loosing some due to the clutch not holding tight. I didn't drive it at all over the weekend, and I tell you this, an FWD Outlander does not drive like an MX-5!

So, I picked up the car yesterday aftenoon, Jason told me it's a bit juddery, I saw him buck a little durring a test. I drove home it home and the good news is, my power is back! It feels great on the move, shifts are nice, peddle effort is probably a slight less than before.

But yeah it judders and vibrated quite harshly while slipping. It's very noticable when taking off from a stop and reversing, but you can even feel it in higher on the move shifts if I don't rev-match properly. Probably a good tool to teach me to be better with my revs, but it's a bit of a pain in parking lots or stop-start traffic. Hopefully it'll ease after a bit of a bed in, Jason said to bring it back if it really bothers and they'll sort something out.

As for "the bog", I've ordered a solenoid as suggested by Roadrunner, should be here any day now. I've had the bog a couple more times, frequency is definitely increasing. Hopefully I'll be able to do the replacement this weekend.

That clutch will drive you mad. Get him to change it straight away. Its no way nearly acceptable to get a new clutch and have it shudder like that.
My SP used to shudder and Mania replaced it with Exedy sports Tuff and has been great for 3 years and nearly 25,000kms with 170rwkws. Its not tracked though.

Automotive Plus just contacted me to follow up. Either Jason was concerned with how I went yesterday day, or one of the team read the comments above. Either way, it's appreciated, and for the record I have/had no issues with Auto Plus or their work. I was quite happy to give the clutch some time to see how it went and knew if I had any issues they would work with me to resolve the problem.

So they will talk to the supplier and we'll arrange a check on the system in a few days to see if there is a problem with the clutch, or the install, or if it's just the way this clutch is.

Automotive Plus are a quality shop and I have no problems with them at all. I'm sure Jason will fix whatever is wrong.
I just know how bad it is to have shudder like that. It makes you look like a idiot when driving, especially when parking in the main street and your bouncing and jerking like a 17 year old. May just have been me though :oops:

Have a look at my other comment in the 'what have you done recently on your mx5' thread. But I think I now know what you mean by the judder. I didnt have that with my mx5 but, the Liberty I have, I had the clutch replaced not long after I got it with an OEM Exedy clutch, flywheel machined etc. Got it replaced as the bearing was squeeking bad and had a shudder on take off. Now the new clutch I got put in was and still is 100 times worse. You get a shudder through the clutch pedal on take off when you slip the clutch like you said, even worse for me in this case is when you shift down gears from 4th to 3rd or 3rd to 2nd, it shudders really bad, you not only feel it in the pedal but you can actually hear it as well making noises inside the box. Most annoying part is, Exedy know about the issue (with Subaru's atleast) but dont want to know anything from the customer and dont want to offer any help. Same goes with the shop I got it done at, they just said, ah mate, some shudder some dont... sad thing is they are a well known and well respected shop for Subaru owners. So here I am still, spent over $1000 getting a new clutch kit thats actually worse then it was before and know one wants to help.

Thanks for your input Rhys, definitely not a hijack.

I've read a few threads with intermittent complaints about judder with the Exedy clutch, and your input backs that up. Sounds very much like my issue. Sucks that the place you went wrong stand by the product and back you. Hopefully we can sort something with Automotive Plus, I'll let you know how we get on.

I did manage to get home with our stalling ;)

No worries, yea still annoys me everytime I think about the shuddering clutch lol, really ruins the fun/want of driving the car.

I was too busy complaining about my clutch troubles, I forgot to take note of my 1 year anniversary! Yes, just over a year a go I flew down to Melbourne and drove back in my baby! :mrgreen:

So, how's it gone? Still in the Honeymoon phase? Well, we've had plenty of good times, met great people and dríven many kilometeres. There's been a few *ahem* enhancements. There's been a few bumps :oops:

But so far it's been a fantastic ride and I'm keen for more! :twisted:

We went for an early drive up Mt Mee on Sunday morning before the BP Coffee meet. Strangely no-one else was keen to drive at 6am in 8 degrees, but I had a good drive! Roof down of course ;)

But I did catch sunrise at the lookout, so that was nice!

My replacement "bog" solenoid arrived today, much later than I'd expected, but it's here now none the less. So this weekend I hope to connect it up and forget about any bog issues.

Still waiting to hear about the clutch. Dave's on to the Exedy guys and hopefully we can sort it out. I'm getting better at managing it, but I stall it about once a day. Not cool.

Yeah, sunrise was good, I got lucky with the timing. There were a couple up there on a motorbike, complaining about the cold :lol:

I saw you last week didn't I, Mark, with Matt? I don't think I'm going to be able to swing SDT this weekend, I was hoping to, but between my clucth playing silly buggers and puppy school for the little one, it's not going to happen. I'm looking at the October date now.
