good that I have a netflix subscription :D
do agree with everyone on the fact that top gear is a show with cars in it and not really a car show- i watch it for the entertainment and to see cars being dríven crazily. Fifth gear was the real car show!

I've always hoped for a true enthusiast's car show that was a sort of cross between TG and Fifth Gear.
Passionate enthusiast presenters but with a bit more focus on the real world and a bit less on silly stunts, drifting supercars around race tracks, and guest drivers that the rest of the world has never heard of.
It would have many of the same elements - a 'news' segment, a comparo, open-road tests in interesting locations, buying well second-hand, great cars of the past, a regular 'fastest-around-our-track' segment, and a limited amount of self-indulgent nonsense.
The key presenter is a bit of a challenge as I think it is a surprisingly difficult role, needing a combination of passion, seriousness, natural-humour, and in-depth car-knowledge to hit the right balance.
All of the Australian and US presenters were just awful, and neither Hamster or May could do the job.
I can't stand Chris Harris. I think Tiff Needell does a reasonable job but I wonder if maybe Rowan Atkinson would be a good choice.
(I can remember Evan Green and Glenn Ridge both hosting Car programs but of course with shoestring budgets.)

I'd be keen to see what Mike Spinelli could do if given a real budget. The afterdrive segments he hosts with the guys from Classic Car Club Manhattan are always really interesting.

Chris Harris has an advantage over most other presenters in that he can steer. I'm always excited to see anything he does involving a legitimate race, but I guess the same could be said of Tiff Needell as well.

The MCM guys are both brilliant characters that play off themselves and the other regular characters incredibly well, but they couldn't, and have actively said that they wouldn't, move to anything more formal.

All in all, nobody comes to mind who could do what Clarkson does, except Clarkson.

A fitting end to an era, watched the last episode featuring the three amigos and "MX5 ((club))" got a mention at Japfest during the classic 70's car segment. Sweet to see 2 out of 3 classic cars chosen were roadsters (ok, technically one).

So... just have to wait 30 years for my NB to join the league.

So - Amazon Prime. Is that kind of subscription-format going to be a bit limiting in terms of potential viewing audience?
