Re: WASABI Jr. - MX5 SE
So the final addition before I hit the track went in yesterday. AWR Motor Mounts - Street / Track version.
The difference it's made to the shift is amazing! So it's done exactly what I wanted it to do... BUT, the vibration through the cabin under 2000rpm is rather silly. Fingers crossed this lessens over time (Others have suggested it will).

Re: WASABI Jr. - MX5 SE
So my first time at the track in the MX resulted in a 1.129. Was hoping to go a little faster then that given the power the car is producing, but I think that was more driver issues than anything else! Very different experience to anything else I've dríven on the track.
No reliability issues, but brake pedal went hard once everything got nice & warm. With the rock hard brake pedal, it felt as though the car could've stopped better but my biggest issue was that it made it difficult for me to heal & toe Needless to say, the syncros got a good work out.

Still a respectable time since you're just getting into the car, I had a similar 'learning' experience when I jumped into my MX5
Out of interest, what tyres are you running?

Kumho V70a mate 205/40 17... Think some wide rubber at the rear would help, especially since it wasn't hard to unsettle with the additional power.

Re: WASABI Jr. - MX5 SE
You would of noticed that for sure, you are used to driving a car with 100mm wider rears!!
Wider and stickier front and rear would make a big difference to your times I reckon.

Re: WASABI Jr. - MX5 SE
Haven't been on for awhile & the MX has taken a bit of a back seat to moving house, Nulon Nationals (Where I drive a different car) & getting back into motorbikes
Was experiencing a bit of boost spiking when the temps were rather cold during winter. This resulted in the engine light getting a bit of a work out - With stand alone ECU's, this generally indicates knocking... So after a bit of chatting with Danny at Deckspeed, we've now added the Haltech wideband O2. Now the ECU more or less acts like a modern car where it can modify the fuel map automatically to keep everything running safely. Along with the changing of the brake booster one way valve which I believe was the cause of my rock hard brake peddle, I'm hoping the car will feel even better at the track!
Hitting Wakefield again with Circuit Club on the October long weekend & I'm hoping I'll net myself a new PB... Just need to remember my lines in the MX again!
Already have further plans for the not too distant future such as 1.5 way LSD (Thinking Cusco), new coilovers (MCA Reds are my top choice at present) & a bit of an upgrade to the audio - Cause every race car needs subs

Re: WASABI Jr. - MX5 SE
So the track was hot on the long weekend, so car got a little bit hot & bothered as the day went on... Towards the end of the day the water gauge (Factory dash one) started to creep over the acceptable level, but 0.5-1 cool down laps & she was right to go hard again.
Was disappointed that I could only manage a 1:13.4, but given a track temp of approx 40 degrees, it wasn't going to be an overly fast day when you've got forced induction. Really still learning how to drive the car as well. Still getting used to not having 500hp, about 750nm & AWD! All that being said, I still have heaps of fun behind the wheel of my little MX at the track, regardless of how fast or slow I am.
Now I'm getting the car ready to run at the final round of the RTDC Motorkhana series on 21st November, Bathurst Hillclimb 28/29th November followed by another Wakefield run with Circuit Club on the 6th Decemeber... Also thinking about getting to the MX5 Club day the weekend after that, but me thinks the wife won't approve of so much motorsport so close to Christmas

Re: WASABI Jr. - MX5 SE
Wakefield can get pretty hot very quickly, the long weekend temps would have been brutal!
Excellent times though considering the heat.
Make sure you have a Gopro on when you do the Bathurst hill climb and post it up on here. Would like to see that!

I always manage to forget my camera! Will not make that mistake for the Bathurst Hillclimb
Hopefully I'll have the car a little stickered up so it looks more race car ;)

Re: WASABI Jr. - MX5 SE
Good to see you getting into it with the MX5. Hot weather really hurts these cars, I reckon you'll be a lot quicker on a cooler day.
I'll be at that Circuit Club day in December (paid and confirmed), looking forward to seeing your beast out there!

I'll be there as well mate - My Birthday is the day before Haven't booked yet, but will happen very soon.
Car should be fresh from the Hillclimb, so hopefully she'll be running super nice... Need to chase you around to get my lap time & lines down pat!

I'll be in the MX... The Monster is sleeping for a little while (My old man wore out the tyres at EC last week ).
Car is all prepped for a hard 3 weekends of motorsport... RTDC Motorkhana Round 4 this weekend... 2 Days of Hillclimbs at Bathurst... Then a good old track day at Wakefield
Turbo is on the way out I've been informed which is not good, so these next 3 weeks might be it's send off... Then upgrade time!

Re: WASABI Jr. - MX5 SE
Ahhhh joy...
Knew my turbo was on the way out, but now syncros on 3rd & 4th are in the same boat
Going to try some Redline Shockproof on the advice of a gearbox builder, but my research & speaking to some others suggests that it's unlikely to do a great deal... Worth a shot though as I don't want to have to baby the changes at Bathurst or at Wakefield over the next few weekends!
