After doing a fair bit of reading I've come to the conclusion that I'd be best running on E85 to pass, as I don't fancy having to repeat the test several times. Hopefully injectors are up to the job, I'll have to have a good look and see what they are. A few servos with E85 around my place in the inner west so it sounds pretty sweet to me. Was worried about effects on fuel system but Nitro's posts here (and on other forums) have put me at ease.

Have to start my own thread me thinks! 8)

So the white car is at Mania having the valve stems looked at. Smokey on start up for a few minutes and blows a bit of blue smoke in 1st and 2nd the first time I accelerate out of my house, then no more smoke after that. So I have expertly diagnosed this although it could also be the turbo but that is new so I wouldn't think its that. It does have a
pantload of piston clearance and is quite slappy until at temperature so there is that as well.

Also the Exedy sports tuff is starting to slip a little in 4th after only 2000kms. I could turn it down to around 180rwkw and it will be fine but after driving for 2 months Its not an option to do that. In fact I drove Scooby last week and it felt very lethargic and it has 170rwkw. I might have ruined him for myself.

Clutch options are a NPC special suggested by Suli or OS Gilken with organic discs. Pricey little things but I need some thing stronger…..

SUGGESTIONS are more than welcome……….

Richard.

We've got a couple of club members who've been running around 200rwkw for years and haven't had any issues from their OS. It's what i'd buy.
If you had access to a car like this, would you take it back right away? Neither would I.

Richard we are destined to sell each other parts forever. Take my Tilton Twin plate off my hands. It's specced for Turbo life. Also the Kaaz diff is pretty stout as well.

So as far as the clutch goes we have 4 options

(1) Nathans Tilton twin plate from the NA arc car. Might be a bit aggressive for street driving but not sure yet.

(2) Ive been emailing Adam from FRSport.com and he has called ACT and chatted with them for a bit about my car and what where looking for and they clutch kit that they recommended was the following: http://www.advancedclutch.com/zm2-xtss $560.00 US delivered so about $750.00 AUD.

(3) Doug from NPC is recommending a Custom Clutch with extra heavy duty cushion button clutch kit for $753.50 + $40.00 freight.

(4) OS Giken I'm also unsure of. The TS2A is nearly $1900.00 for a street dríven the noise and engagement issues that would drive me nuts.
The GTS1CD 'soft' clutch I'm having trouble finding comments on it and its still $1600.00.

Leaning very much towards NPC and the moment but nothing is set in stone yet. I'm in no super rush as can still just turn it down a little and will fine for a while.

Im still not sure after talking to more folks, they are all to to sell a cushioned button to a daily driver, but is there a refund if I hate it? Waiting to hear back from flyin miata about shipping and availability of the happy meal clutch pack. Stuck in traffic yesterday in my other car im not sure about anything other than an organic clutch, but one that can hold 300 pdft thats the question.

The https://www.flyinmiata.com/fm-level-2-clutch.html is my current pic, nothing seems to come close for a daily driver with hp.

Yesterday I drove Ron and Keiths NA race car around the paddock with an excedy cush button, easy enough to drive and can handle the torque. Not cheap still but less than plenty of the other fancy options.

So I decided on NPC and had them make me up a extra heavy duty cushion button clutch kit and Dave at Mania has is now.
They tell me this set up will handle all the power I can throw at it and should be very drivable.
Matched with my ATC flywheel it should be great. We will see. If not we have 2 great back ups.

It won't be put in for a day or so as replacing the valve stems didn't fix the smoke on start up
Turbo is now off the car and will be replaced with my spare one I got from Andrew a few months ago.
That was just meant to be and proves "you can never have too many turbos"

The smokey update.

So the turbo came off and it was saturated with oil and dripping out the end.
We then ran it through a set of headers and although less smokey. Still too smokey.
Scoped the bores and they were really oily so cleaned with Subaru cleaner so it was perfectly clean. Started it and ran for about 20 seconds and the bores were oiled up really bad.
Not good news at all. Rings seem to be the culprit.

So its only really smokey in he mornings when you start it up but it fills the garage with white smoke and Karen is starting to crack it.
There is also a short jet stream of blue smoke the first time you give it a little bit in 1st and second. Usually about 150m from my house.
There is also a serious black circle of fuel/oil on the back of the garage wall (this is another sore point at the moment) plus the stain on the garage floor where it drips out of the exhaust.
When its warm and all the oil has been blown out of the turbo and exhaust it runs like a dream with hardly any smoke at all. Even at flat out.

Sometimes you know what the outcome is going to be but you can't just bring yourself to say "Yes, lets pull it apart and get it right once and for all"

Looks like a full rebuild is on the cards…….sonofabitch. Thicker oil isn't going to fix this one. I will try that first though

Good news though, I don't have to use my new spare turbo as the old one is still good. So thats a win. Yaaaay. Will probably need to sell it though to fund some of the rebuild. Boooooo.

Richard.
