SE tuning in Melbourne
Hi All,
I've had a bit of a dig around and am trying to find out where is best to mod/tune a SE. I realise this has probably been covered many times and I apologies in advance...
Have just purchased a Titanium SE and love it, but want some more poke. Any feedback would be much appreciated!
Oh, and does anyone know how the car would sit with 15s instead of 17s on stock suspension?
Thanks

Re: SE tuning in Melbourne
Tuning can't help.
as for 15s vs 17s, how the car sits (presumably you mean height wise?) will only change depending on the tyre size you choose. Generally when you go to a smaller wheel you then get a larger tyre so that the overall size change is minimal (so the speedo etc isn't out)
I don't know what the factory tyre size is for the 17s, so I can't really say what size tyre for the 15s would be the same/similar. I suspect a 205/50/15 would be close.

Re: SE tuning in Melbourne
15s on the stock shocks will make the car look like a 4WD (so you should upgrade the shocks too) - see http://www.mazda-speed.com/forum2/index.php/topic,16546.0.html for 46 pages of MSM/SE wheel upgrades from the 17" SE OEM boat anchors.
Want more poke - add AEM CAI, boost gauge, MBC and bump the boost up to 10psi; best bang for buck power modz on the SE.

Nah, the OEM 17" Racing Hart "boat anchors", they're 7.8kg and ride/handle like crap.

Re: SE tuning in Melbourne
Went to Sydney mainly for oil leak repairs. That fix only lasted a week. Minor tweaks in Sydney to idle AFR massively improved driveability though.
The two places in Melbourne who were involved in the tune were no good so there are no tuning recommendations I can make. Nor can I recommend an engine builder. See my signature for suitable overall advice.

UK since return: Standard NC2 (horrid), C200K, ND2 BBR, NC2 BBR200 (loved it), NC BBR300 (better than BARMY), V-Special, turbo NB8B (my 84th car)

Re: SE tuning in Melbourne
So... quite a frustrated Melbournian SE owner here... I'd like to get some more mods, aftermarket ECU and tune.
However, it would seem that there's nobody reputable in Melbourne for SE's? Anyone transported their car to one of the Sydney guys? Mania/NitroDann etc?
Want to get it all done in one hit and properly rather than piss farting around here and there...
Any feedback would be much appreciated

Re: SE tuning in Melbourne
There are plenty of good tuners in Melbourne. Ring around and talk to them. I basically have an SE set up. Makes excellent power with a very basic (cheap) tune. And didn't blow up on my first track day.
Mod list is- bigger intercooler, shorter I/C pipes, RX8 injectors, 2.25" exhaust, pod filter, manual boost controller and Megasquirt 3 ecu. And as I started with an NB8B non turbo, my engine has a VVT head, with higher compression than you have.

Thanks Lightyear!
Who tuned your car and where did you get the Megasquirt 3 ecu?
Cheers
