Mx5 Owner's
Anyone else feel like they have to say hello to other mx5 owners on the road. Even if its a wave, thumbs up or general how you going, nice car type of thing?

Re: Mx5 Owner's
I've thought of it several times, but never initiated a hello (honk, wave, light, etc), as unsure if the other owner is an enthusiast or just someone in an mx5 who probably doesn't want to be bothered
I have responded to waves from other mx5 owners though
perhaps we should have a well known accepted way of greeting fellow mx5ers.

Re: Mx5 Owner's
When I owned the NA, I modded the indicator stalk so a pull on it flipped the pop-ups on highbeam, then back down again just as quick.
(It's a really simple mod, NA users, if you've never heard of it and want to try it. As I recall it just involved changing a fuse...)
Back in those days, I was forever flipping the popups at other MX-5's, which were mostly still NAs at the time as the NB was still very new.
These days I don't do it as much because I think the camaraderie of driving an MX-5 is more diluted these days...
... plus people would probably think I was warning them of police up ahead, moreso than, "Hey, you've got one! I've got one too! Yay!"

I just hold my BREVILLE hair dryer up and smile
Seriously, I always give a wave in my NB or a flip of the headlights in the NA. Also, most 86/BRZ drivers give a wave back at another

Re: Mx5 Owner's
I usually go for the two-fingers-off-the-wheel salute.
If the other driver is looking as well, they'll see.
If not, i'm not that guy at the party waving across the room to some random I thought was my friend..

Re: Mx5 Owner's
I used to when I first got my car... thinking it was going to be like the old days in chook cookers or classic WRX pre-imobiliser days... I waved at every MX5
I even posted complaining about the lack of love...
Now i have pretty much given up, just lift a finger and occasionally it is returned. If someone waves at me I think "newby" smile and wave back...

Re: Mx5 Owner's
One observation I've had is middle aged women don't wave back.

Re: Mx5 Owner's
I'll always try and wave. Have had one great chat stopped at the lights of Caxton Street exit of the ICB with an older guy in an NC. Seen a couple of MX-5s on Coot-tha and Nebo where we've exchanged waves.

Re: Mx5 Owner's
I have given up on this, concluding that it is clearly an artefact of my youth that is no longer understood by most people who own sports cars.
Neither young NOR old seem to understand it any more so I don't bother.
Once upon a time people who owned sports cars were enthusiasts, nowdays a lot of them are just Poseurs.

Re: Mx5 Owner's
Received my first wave from an NC driver & passenger recently, while we were driving through a roundabout in Echuca, even before I'd waved at them!
I always try to give some sort of recognition to other 5's on the road if I see them in time, but must admit even in my few years in the car, I've noticed a big decline in responses. Won't let that stop me though ...
