Re: Just a misunderstanding. MX5 Mania rocks
This is really straightforward and yet commonly misunderstood economics. A wage or salary (or whatever) is a sale, sales are governed by fairly basic maths (clever high school kids can do it), until you understand that you just wont be able to understand the basics of this.
Dave can you please delete every one of my posts in this thread including this one?

Actually it leads off of magpies joke about finding a way to employ someone who is cost effective enough to fix the percieved service issues outlined in the OP post.

My first full time job paid was $90 a fortnight (after R&Q was taken out) as a junior recruit in the Navy at 16. I earnt more delivering leaflets after school before I joined. but I digress.
This hurts but I agree with Dann, if the min wage is set so high and prices people out of finding employment then how is this smart? Let the market set the price, provided it does not fall below the dole then who really loosers? In contrast there are some people paid very large sums and have risen to their own level of incompetence yet they are employed, what is the difference? How can a person that should not be employed keep their job yet somebody who really wants a job can't find one? Getting way off topic now, however after 4 pages what topic does not?
From my experience having sympathy is easy paying for that sympathy in real dollars is another ball game.
Happy to have my posts deleted as well, sorry for starting the current 'popcorn' moment.

Then people vote for wealth redistribution and pretend that its their own money they are spending.

Like I said earlier in the thread. It was a mistake to set expectations so high on a internet based sale. Especially when dealing with a Australian company. Nothing wrong with said company in this thread. But we all know customer service levels are lower and slower in Australia compared to elsewhere in the world.

I understand reducing or eliminating the minimum wage would be effective in increasing the employment rate but my point is that doing that has bigger implications, it impacts the quality of life of people already on the minimum wage which is why putting incentives in place to assist people get into work is in my opinion a better solution than reducing the minimum wage.
You just need to look at the tent cities in the US to see that a low minimum wage isn't the final solution to the unemployment problem.

Yeh that's very true and it is easy to get caught up in idealist ideas rather than doing something but that applies to both sides of this argument.Magpie wrote:From my experience having sympathy is easy paying for that sympathy in real dollars is another ball game.

Australia has people living in resolute poverty also. Whole towns in the outback.
America has significantly higher average disposable income than us. Ie, they are wealthier than us

They also have a huge wealth gap too though and that wealth is concentrated.
Reducing the minimum wage won't automatically fix the problem of poverty here.
But it will widen the wealth gap we have here as lower costs for labour creates better profits for owners and people on minimum wage will earn less.

With all due respect, this stuff interests me a lot and the way you are writing auggests you dont have a lot of the basics down pat, soo in the interests of not writing a novel, I'm letting it go.

Re: Just a misunderstanding. MX5 Mania rocks
I agree that it's more complicated than that and I said that in my second last post.
You are the one advocating a single change to solve the issue and I'm advocating the bigger picture.

I think there are some large generalizations in this discussion. It really is different with every business, some are exceptional and some are average.
I needed a Pallet Jacket this morning. Found some pricing on line, phoned the company, confirmed the price and lead time. Placed and order by email and had a return call with in 2 hours for payment. Delivery is scheduled for tomorrow morning.
Nothing wrong with that Aussie service.

The reality, all businesses will slip up at some point. No company that's been around can lay claim to a perfect service record.
At some point, someone will be disappointed for whatever reason.
