Hardtop side brackets?

Postby RS2000 » Mon May 18, 2015 9:55 am

My hardtop stays on permanently, as it is a track car.

Is there any benefit in replacing side latches with Jass Performance brackets?
Or waste of money?

Cheers

Yes there will be no movement in the latches.

Mazda factory hard tops do increase the beaming and torsional stiffness of a standard MX-5 chassis! :P

Thanks Magpie, I had read that a while back.

Automotive Plus state that for any structural benefit, each latch must apply a clamping force.

Wouldn't adjustable factory side latches do that better than Jass brackets (just flat plate)?

Cheers

My Jass plates actually straighten as you tighten them and seem to apply a clamping load.
I was quite impressed.

I agree on the Jass as sold by Omgpham (I have these). These 'pull' the hardtop into the same position as the OEM latches, there is still a little tweaking to be done with the Jass but once it is tightened it is very solid.

Garage Star (also sold buy Omgpham) requires you to position the hardtop correctley first then 'lock' it down.

I've got the jass brackets and they are fantastic for keeping the hardtop on tight with virtually no squeaks. Much better than the oem latches.
