What wire to connect NB roof demister to NA ?

Postby madkeen » Wed May 13, 2015 10:02 am

HI all. I just had an NB roof with glass window fitted onto my NA, but there's no wires to connect the demister.

The roof has wires, and the car has a connector socket.. I'm just missing the bit in between. (See pic below).
Any tips on where to get one... or does anyone have a spare :)

Thanks

The wiring from HT to vehicle loom plug is called a pigtail, but you'll most likely need an NA pigtail as the NB pigtail uses a different plug to the NA pigtail (I did when fitting my 2000 NB8 HT to my 1993 NA8). However, worth checking as you've a 1996 NA8, which along with 1997 NA8, were the P5 revision (see VIN). Also I've just checked you pic of your car's loom side plug & the dust cover appears a bit different to my 1993 NA8. As you're in Brisbane, MX5 Plus would be a good starting point.

Thanks heaps Clubman_93. Yeah, I did some searching before posting here and realised it wasn't quite as straight forward as I expected. Will chat with the boys as Auto plus about getting a part in - they seem to have all the answers. Cheers

For reference, the white plugs on the glass end of it don't look factory.

I'll need to check my car when I get home, but I'm pretty sure the NB top had a spiral wound wire (think old phone cord) and a single black plug on the end.

Those two white plugs look like the generic click fit connectors from Jaycar etc.

Hmmm... I see. Who knew hooking up the demister would be tricky!

Thanks.

Even if you can't get the Mazda plug easily, the demister is only two wires, and so would be simple to wire up yourself. (or have a friend into electronics do it for a few beers)

Yeah, the missing pigtail plugs into two spade demister connectors that sit flush to the glass on the unmodified HT. So yes, two wires at the demister end, which morphs into three wires within the pigtail, which plugs into three wires at the vehicle loom demister plug.
