Torsen 1
Hi guys
someone was telling me that the place to buy a torsen diff was on the yahoo Japan auction site.
Even running the google translator, I can't seem to get very far.
I believe that don't call them lsd's in Japan.
Can anyone advise me on what I should be entering as a search for a torsen 1, 4.1 ratio diff.
I was also informed that jdm parts and rupewrecht, take all the heartache of purchasing and importing such a thing.
Can anyone advise on tips/advise etc.
Many thanks

Re: Torsen 1
Why buy from overseas when there's a number of places you could buy a Torsen LSD locally though, Automotive Plus for a start.
If you're buying just a diff centre *maybe* that could be a cost benefit exercise if the shipping isn't too much, but I can imagine shipping a whole diff from Japan would be pretty expensive. How would you know that a diff or a centre you're getting from overseas is in decent condition? There would be very little recourse except to spend more if the Torsen is mechanically bad.
The exchange rate is a factor too, and don't forget that a bit of the overall cost to you is a well deserved fee for Rupewrechts time and effort.

Re: Torsen 1
Thanks slug_dub.
I was talking to someone and they were saying, landed in Oz for a Torsen complete in housing was about $380. Photos were provided prior.
Risky I know, but I could buy 3 of those for the same money locally.
Transport is slow, as they wait to fill a container. (makes for cheap shipping)

Re: Torsen 1
Myself, I have never heard of a Torsen in a housing being as cheap as that, if they were we'd all be buying them that way! Happy to be proven wrong.

Googled: ebay torsen
This came up on the first page.
Not sure how far this is away from you, but not too much more than the price you mentioned getting it shipped from japan, plus you can always take it back to the seller if it is stuffed.

While it says torsen in the title, seller mentions its not a torsen in the details.

Re: Torsen 1
Any reason you want a Torsen1 instead of a Torsen2?
the 2 is a lot more common and easy to get, it's also a stronger centre than the T1.
There's some argument that the T1 works better, but tbh I think it's in people's heads.

Hi.
Just to let you all know anybody based in Aust. generally cannot buy goods direct on yahoo japan. They buy through buying groups so you pay two commissions one to japan and one to the aust. agent. As I posted recently a torsen 2 4.3 ratio in housing sold for 25000yen at an exchange rate of say .92 would be $271 aust. Double it for commission and shipping by sea and you have a torsen for a max of $500. The only problem you have is the torsen in the housing exceeds the shipping maximum of 30kgs. If you deal with an agent have the seller separate the housing and centre and send as two parcels so that they can be sent by sea. When I see torsens on here over 1K well........
I have dealt for 10+ years with ISI in japan( you deal direct) for cars and parts and never had a problem with either.
