NC final drive question

Postby colster3 » Thu Apr 30, 2015 7:26 pm

My NB had a 6sp trans, 4.1 ring and pinion and 15" wheels and was quite good around WP... Looking at Miata Roadster, they have a 4.3 that allegdly fits an NC (I have an NCLE). Flyin' Miata's gearing chart seems to indicate that a 4.3 with 17" wheels will be pretty much the same gearing as my old NB. Just wondering if anyone knows about whether anyone has tried this option and if so, how it went...

4.3 would be wicked!

I'm running the 4.1, happy for you to take my car for a spin anytime if you want to see the difference. It does liven things up a bit

The Miata Roadster site shows the 4.3 ring having the same part number for both NB and NC... Might have speak to boy racer and see what he has in stock... Could be interesting 8)

I’d take a drive in an NC with a 4.1 since I’m not sure you can directly compare NB and NC gearing.

Because the gear ratios are different you will end up at different revs in different gears and due the different engine even if you had the same gearing you would end up at different speeds which would change the revs in different parts of the track.

I have a 4.1 with 17’s myself and I don’t think anytime I want full throttle on any track I’ve been to I’m much below 4500RPM which is well within peak torque on the NC so I’m not sure a higher ratio would improve drive out of the corners (links are in my signature to video’s of me driving and the revs/throttle position are shown in the videos which shows this).

Col, I think a 4.3 on a road NC would end up being like a 5 speed as 1st would be redundant.
I do know of a track NC that's gone higher.
