As already stated no need for an original Mazda O ring.

The size of O Ring needed is 1/8” width, 1 ½” ID, 1 3/4” OD.

Or use part BS222

Any bearing supplier (eg cbc) will also have a large stock of 'o' rings.

So a slave is about $70 (daylight robbery) but a rebuild kit about $11. Apparently the rebuild take about 5 minutes, anyone tried this with success?

While you are at it, get a rebuild kit for the master cylinder and do that too. One less thing to worry about for a good few years.

Worth noting that these are actually getting harder to find in Aust.
Repco, Bursons etc don't seem to have MX5 ones listed in the catalogue.

Pretty sure my GF looked up and found that a BG 323 master cyl kit is the same

rebuilding master cylinders and slaves etc have gone out of fashion. In the old days it was common but then everyone wanted to do things on the cheap and not for integrity and also labour / overheads are now so high that its more economical to buy new product. You can apply this to almost everything- people throw out better bikes that some of us ever owned. It was not that many decades ago that par for the course was retread tyre and almost no one with a passenger car would do it today - not even sure if they can be bought.

Ive ordered the rebulid kit, should come in next week. Im not keen to pay 180 for genuine mazda and reading around it's not uncommon for the aftermarket ones to fail within a year. Rebuild is worth the gamble I feel and hey, I might learn something :P Also got the CAS o-ring, will give it a go tomorrow.

Im still confused about the slave, if my master is full, doesnt this mean that I don't have a leak? Doesnt this point to something mechanical failing somewhere rather than hydraulic?

Initial clutch slave cylinder leak is typically very slight & only detected by peeling back the clutch slave cylinder rubber boot to reveal a little hydraulic fluid.

Its not just the fluid leaking out, its the air leaking in.

To follow on from this discussion, Fab9 in the US have just listed a complete clutch referb kit which includes new Master and Slave cylinders plus a braided line.
At ~US$57 + shipping it's pretty good value!
