Aftermarket ECU causing CEL

Postby track_addict » Sat Apr 25, 2015 5:18 pm

So I've had my SE tuned with an adaptronic ECU for a few weeks now and today I noticed the car gives a CEL sometimes when I hit boost. The light comes on but once I let off or the car drops below 4000rpm the light goes off.

I'm guessing I've got an electrical issue somewhere since aftermarket ECU's don't support CEL codes. Or is there another separate sub system (knock sensor?) that can still give a CEL without running an OEM ECU? Kind of don't want to blow up a motor just yet.

Cheers, Ash.

I;d talk to your tuner.

They may have wired the CEL up for something else (maybe knock, lean, whatever)

Will do. I installed the ECU as per the Adaptronic instructions, so I definitely didn't make any mods but I'll check with the tuner. There isn't a hidden feature on the adaptronic that throws a CEL under nasty conditions?

I was under the impression that the Adaptronic CEL isn't supported based on the manual when I installed it and the last I read about it here: http://www.adaptronic.com.au/forum/index.php?topic=5149.0
I just took out the CEL bulb based on this, I didn't want it flickering randomly.

I did a bit of digging on the Adaptronic forum, where you SHOULD look first for Adaptronic issues, and found this more recent thread that may help diagnose this issue: http://www.adaptronic.com.au/forum/index.php?topic=5761.0

So do as the thread suggests (assuming you have a laptop with WARI installed on it), generate a log file with this issue and post your results there. Andy/MarkG are VERY helpful with these issues and other Adaptronic users will be able to help or learn from the feedback too.

DAMN - now that it looks like there's some functionality behind it, I'm going to have to put that bulb back in!
