Hello, I currently own a 99 NB.
There were no trouble just a few months ago but since then my car has been dropping down on
RPM when stopping, but it does come back to normal when I start driving.
I've realized that the power of the car has dropped dramatically so I changed the engine oil and
after changing my engine oil, the car was alright for just a few times and the sound was back again.
(the sound could also be heard from the outside)
I'm not 100% sure where exactly the sound is coming from but I'm guessing it's coming from near the cam belt.
The sound that comes from the car sounds as if something is getting caught and it's causing damage.
Also with this problem, the coolant oil has been dropping down in a short period of time.
Unfortunately, I had to drive around a lot in this period of time and as a matter of fact, the problem got worse.
After a while, the sound has dramatically increased compared to the sound before so I checked
the engine room and the coolant oil tank was empty and the coolant oil was linking below and around the engine.
What do you guys think is the problem?
Is it just a simple water pump problem or is it something else more serious
By the way, I am able to drive but the sound is just way too loud to be normal.
Please give me some feedbacks and comments below.
Thank you.

Do yourself a favour and take it to a mechanic rather than driving it around and risking damage. They don't charge for listening.

Yeah, I'd get to a mechanic ASAP. Could be a failed water pump, but there might be other damage from driving it around in a deteriorated state.

I'll be the third person to say, get it to a mechanic.
If you post up a video of the sound we could speculate on what we think it is.
If it is water pump, you shouldn't be driving it far or you could cook your engine.
Best of luck and let us know how you go.

Ok seriously, get a mechanic to look at it. Does your engine oil have a bad smell to it? Is the engine oil milky?
Make sure you are wearing a tight blue figure hugging garment, dressing gown preferred when checking.

If you can move your car as close to your monitor as possible so we can hear the noise through our stethescope as illustrated...
Take a look at your airbox and hoses, make sure they aren't loose.
Apart from that, take it to a mechanic is your best option.
